Through Ohio University's minor in conducting, students may further develop their conducting skills so they can become more knowledgeable and marketable in the field. Students gain knowledge that is essential to a conductor, including manual technique, rehearsal skills, score study, repertoire and programming knowledge, ear training and error detection.
The program requires three semesters of conducting courses, courses in instrumentation and literature, and ensemble participation, along with additional electives including applied conducting and recital.
First-year students, current students who wish to change programs and external transfer students must meet specific requirements for program admission, including:
The Conducting Minor requires a minimum of 15 credit hours. A grade of C (2.0) or better is required in each course. Through these courses you'll gain foundational and advanced skills in both instrumental and choral conducting, focusing on technique, interpretation, and rehearsal strategies.
