Lucas Borges, Professor of Trombone, is a Conn-Selmer Performing Artist. he has been invited to teach and perform in international festivals and was a member of the Bloomington Camerata Orchestra, Orchestra Filarmônica de Brasília. Currently, Dr. Borges is Principal Trombone of the Colorado MahlerFest Orchestra and a trombonist with Ohio Valley Symphony.

Brass Admissions & Audition Requirements
Acceptance into the Master of Music in Performance program is by audition only for all entering students.

International Students
This program permits full-time enrollment in residence at Ohio University, and an I-20 may be issued based on admission to this program.
Brass Division Requirements
- At least one solo of major length.
- Solo movements and/or etudes contrasting in tempo and style are desirable.
- Demonstrate knowledge of scales and arpeggios.
- Advanced solos from state solo and ensemble contest lists are suggested.
- Sight reading and/or aural discrimination skills may also be assessed during your audition.

Jason Roland Smith, Professor of Tuba and Euphonium, has presented performances at conferences, festivals, and universities internationally. As a founding member of OhioBrass, Ohio University’s faculty-artist brass quintet in residence. he has toured nationally and has performed with many orchestras in the region.

C. Scott Smith
Professor of Horn and Theory, C. Scott Smith's current performing status includes principal horn of Ohio Valley Symphony and Maine State Ballet Orchestra, and founding member of OhioBrass. His career includes a variety of national experiences as soloist, chamber musician, adjudicator, and conductor.

Maximillian McNutt
Maximillian McNutt, Assistant Professor of Trumpet, has performed as Principal Trumpet of the Charlottesville Symphony and Boulder Symphony and as an orchestral musician with the Colorado Symphony, Virginia Symphony, Boulder Philharmonic, Roanoke Symphony, Charlottesville Opera, Wintergreen Music Festival, and the Mahlerfest Orchestra.
