Program Context and Mission
Program Mission: We develop a Bobcat family of future sports leaders by optimizing the experience and research of our diverse faculty, alumni network and industry partners.
Program Goals:
- The Department of Sports Administration will create or enhance experiential learning opportunities domestically and abroad with a keen eye on preparing students for gainful employment.
- The Department of Sports Administration will be intentional in outreach efforts to recruit high quality students who mirror the global sports industry in all programs, develop a culture conducive to retention, and work to assist in securing gainful employment or paths to graduate school.

Brief Description of Student Population: The majority of the Athens campus population consists of undergraduates (around 16,500 to 20,000 students), supported by nearly 5,000 to 6,000 graduate and professional students. The residential campus sits in a classic college-town setting in the Appalachian foothills, interacting with a local Athens city population of about 24,000 residents when the university is in session.
Admissions Requirements: Undergraduate College of Business (Sport Management) - an overall GPA of 3.0 or better on high school coursework, solid performance on a strong college preparatory curriculum, Evidence of leadership and/or engagement during high school, such as participation in extracurricular activities, community service, work experience, or caregiving responsibilities.
(Applicants will not be penalized for limitations on activities during COVID-19, of course.).
Master of Business Administration & Master of Science (Sports Administration) Dual Degree - $50 application fee, official transcripts from all degree-bearing institutions at the bachelor’s level or higher and unofficial transcripts for any additional college coursework, recommendation letters, resume, and interview.
Online Master of Science (Sports Administration) - $50 application fee, institutionally accredited bachelor’s degree, GPA of 3.0 or higher is necessary, official transcripts from all degree-bearing institutions at the bachelor’s level or higher and unofficial transcripts for any additional college coursework, 2 years of professional experience in the sport industry is preferred, two letters of recommendation from professional or academic references. At least one letter from a supervisor is required, a professional plan statement discussing your career goals, how the master’s degree will help you achieve those goals, areas or competencies that you expect the program will help you strengthen, and what you plan to contribute to the learning community, and current resume.
Master of Science (Athletic Administration) – $50 application fee, proof of a bachelor’s degree from an institutionally accredited four-year college or university, cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 2.7 on a 4.0 scale in the last 90 quarter hours or 60 semester hours, experience in coaching or athletic administration at the interscholastic level - a minimum of two years or current employment is preferred, two letters of recommendation from professional references, at least one letter from a current interscholastic administrator is required.
