Fall Parents Weekend

September 18—September 20, 2015 

The first family weekend of the school year is in honor of parents. All moms, dads, and family members are invited to join us for a few days to relax amidst the beauty of the Ohio University campus.

The Athens County Convention and Visitors Bureau maintains a list of local availabilities through their "Where To Stay" website located here. The Hocking Hills also offers a lodging directory, too.  Their "Where To Stay" website is located here.

Dinner and a Movie (Inside Out)

Friday, September 18 at 7PM, Baker University Center Ballroom 

Enjoy dinner and a show. Back by popular demand, this dinner theater is a great way to kick off your Parents Weekend!

Friday, September 18 at 7PM, Athena Cinema, 20 S Court Street, Athens OH 

Holly Hunter, Nicolas C age and John Goodman star in this beloved Coen brothers crime comedy. See if you family dysfunction stacks up to these domestic outlaws as they kidnap one of the highly publicized quintuplets of a local furniture mogul. The film is a hilarious, highly quotable romp that gets complicated when a part bloodhound bounty hunter tracks them down. See the OHIO Bobcats hit the ice against John Carroll University of Friday, September 18th. Puck drops at 7:30pm.  

Student tickets are $6 and all other tickets are $8. All tickets are general admission. Doors open at 6:45pm. Children under 5 are free, all others attending must have a ticket to enter the facility.  

Game day tickets are not guaranteed and are based on availability.

An evening of hiking, campfires, stargazing and fun at the Ridges.

P*A*R*E*N*T*S Brunch: sponsored by the University Program Council

Saturday, September 19 at 11AM, Baker University Center Ballroom 

Come enjoy a great breakfast buffet and entertainment at the Parents Weekend Breakfast. The breakfast menus features scrambled eggs, French toast, bacon, hash browns, assorted pastries and fresh fruit. Live music and raffles will take place during seating. OU administrators will also be present throughout to meet and greet our families.

OHIO Football v. Southeastern Louisiana

Saturday, September 19 at 2PM, Peden Stadium 

Cheer on the OHIO Bobcats as they take on the Southeastern Louisiana Lions and enjoy performances by the Ohio University Marching 110.

Ohio University students receive free tickets to all regular-season home athletic events with a valid Ohio University ID. Students must show their student ID at the gate.
 
General admission is $30.

The Second City – 55th Anniversary Tour

Saturday, September 19 at 8PM, Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium 

Chicago’s legendary sketch and improv comedy theater returns to Ohio University with “The Best of The Second City.” This must-see show features the best sketches and songs from The Second City’s 55-year history made famous by superstars like Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell, Gilda Radner, Bill Murray and more-- as well as their trademark improvisation. Now is Better: Exhibition by Stefan Sagemeister

“Now is Better” will showcase a corporate self-promo video on a loop that received the 2013 New York Festival International Advertising Award and 2013 Award by the Global Association for Creative Advertising & Design. Stefan Sagmeister, born in Austria in 1962, is a New York-based graphic designer and lettering artist. He is a co-founder of a design firm Sagmeister & Walsh that creates identities, commercials, websites, apps, films, books and projects. Sagmeister has spent many years designing for the music industry and received Several Grammy Awards for his designs. He worked for the Rolling Stones, The Talking Heads, Lou Reed, David Byrne, Aerosmith and Pat Metheny. Some of his clients have been AIGA Detroit, Anni Kuan Design, Capitol Records, Copy Magazine, and the Guggenheim Museum. Exhibitions on Sagmeister's work have been mounted in New York, Philadelphia, Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Paris, Lausanne, Zurich, Vienna, Prague, Cologne & Berlin. Sagmeister delivered several TED talks, such as The power of time off (2009), Designing with slogans (2008), Happiness by design (2007). Sagmeister achieved notoriety in the 1990s as the graphic design provocateur for his unorthodox, provocative designs that tweak the status quo and question the designer’s role.
