Whether you're a student, instructor, staff member, or Canvas administrator, OHIO provides a variety of training resources to help you build your Canvas skills and get the most from the platform. Explore self-paced courses, guided training opportunities, and recorded workshops covering everything from Canvas fundamentals and course design to digital accessibility and advanced features.
Growing With Canvas (Instructor Course)
Growing With Canvas is a self-paced course designed to help instructors build confidence and proficiency in Canvas. Developed by Instructure and enhanced with OHIO-specific guidance, the course introduces key tools, workflows, and best practices for teaching with Canvas. How to access the course:
- Instructors: You are automatically enrolled in "Growing With Canvas." Log in at canvas.ohio.edu and view the course under "My Courses."
- Staff: If you are not listed as an instructor of record for an OHIO academic course, simply contact OIT to request access.
Passport to Canvas (Student Course)
Passport to Canvas is a free, self-paced orientation course that teaches students how to successfully use Canvas for their courses. Whether you're new to Canvas or just want a refresher, Passport to Canvas provides the knowledge and skills you need to get started with confidence. How to access:
- Any OHIO Canvas User can self-enroll in the course to get started.
Select Canvas Trainings
Explore select trainings in Canvas that address the basics of Canvas and digital accessibility, as well as resources for OHIO IT colleagues. Please note that the training platform within Canvas will prompt you to "Authorize" the application the first time you log in in order to access offerings.
Recorded Canvas Training
Instructure-Led Workshops
Instructure, the parent company of Canvas, visited OHIO frequently during the transition to Canvas to faciliate workshops. These primarily occurred in 2023 and 2024. Workshop topics are selected based on faculty feedback and educational interests. An OHIO ID is required to access the recordings.

Digital Accessibility Considerations
In April 2024, the OHIO Digital Accessibility Network (OHIO-DAN) hosted guest speakers from Canvas:

- Jessica Carey (Accessibility Engineering Lead)
- Saša Stojić-Ito (Instructional Designer)
The Canvas guest speakers discussed best practices and strategies for creating accessible digital content within the platform, as well as provided insights into their ongoing commitment to improving accessibility at Canvas.
