Call for Program Proposals

Interested in Creating a New Program?

The Global Mobility Committee (GMC) seeks proposals from faculty and staff on all OHIO campuses who are interested in contributing to student mobility.

Study abroad/away programs are high-impact practices that foster integrative learning which is a goal of OHIO's general education curriculum and experiential learning broadly. Students who engage in these programs report positive outcomes in many areas: personal growth, academic knowledge, career development, and civic engagement.

Proposal Period

To offer student programming that best addresses student needs, as well as university priorities, OGO will maintain a list of faculty-led program options for each academic year.  Once approved, a program will be active for two academic years and must re-apply through the proposal process to run again in the future years.

Current Call for Proposals

The GMC is now accepting applications for programs to run in Winter Break, Spring Break or Spring Semester during the 2025/2026 or 2026/2027 academic years.

Criteria

Programs that meet the following criteria will be considered:

  • Are credit-bearing, with a preference for courses that offer 1-4 credit hours
  • Offered during Winter Break, Spring Break or Spring Semester
  • Have a director and an additional OHIO employee identified with the understanding that both will travel with the program. Program leadership must be active OHIO employees; retirees are not eligible to lead programs.
  • Preference given to programs intended to run for the two academic years in this proposal cycle. (e.g. Spring Break 2026 and 2027)
  • For programs that have run since Winter Break 2023-2024, factors such as student enrollment and overall budget may be considered.

Additionally, health and safety info will be reviewed for locations listed in proposals, and alternative locations may be requested/recommended/required before a proposal is approved.

Note:

  • Faculty interested in pursuing a College of Business-related program proposal should contact Andrew Pueschel and Stephanie Sharp. COB program proposals will not be reviewed.
  • Faculty interested in establishing a program that is primarily internship, consulting or practicum-based should consult with their college.

Selection Process

The Global Mobility Committee (GMC) considers many factors in their review, including input from the appropriate academic unit(s) and alignment of proposals to university strategic needs and goals.

First, proposals are shared with the appropriate college deans, who provide feedback based on their college’s priorities.  The GMC then reviews and scores each proposal individually, before making final selections that meet the stated priorities and offer a diverse portfolio of programs.

The selected menu of study abroad and away programs will provide participants with enriching and meaningful learning experiences that help them meet their graduation requirements, with the potential to attract a diverse representation of students from disciplines across OHIO’s campuses and colleges.

Priorities for this selection period:

  • Coursework that helps students meet graduation requirements (e.g. BRICKS)
  • Programs that combine or cross disciplines
  • Opportunities that connect students with their host community(ies)/culture(s) in meaningful and mutually beneficial ways
