Rolland Harris Headshot

Hello, My name is Rolland Harris! I'm a first-generation student from Columbus, Ohio. I decided to pursue Ohio University’s Interior Architecture program because of my love for drawing and designing buildings within video games such as Minecraft and the Sims. Some of my favorite projects I have worked on include remodeling Alden Library’s Fine Arts floor and turning a wing of Athens's old lunatic asylum building into a mixed-use residential and commercial venue. In the future, I aim to pursue my Master's of Architecture at Ohio State University to become a licensed architect and work in residential and commercial design.

My thesis focuses on improving schools in low-income Black communities. As I attended many schools in different parts of Columbus, I noticed the disparities between the quality of educational facilities in schools in less affluent black communities compared to more affluent primarily white communities. This project aims to reimagine the built environment of schools in low-income black communities using design to improve student’s learning outcomes.
