Admission Requirements and Process

The Ohio University Graduate College works together with each graduate program to process and review your application. Use the steps below to guide you through your application process.

Students wishing to pursue graduate studies may choose from six M.F.A. degree programs or one M.A. degree program. Details can be found on the Graduate Programs page.

M.F.A. Degrees

Includes: Studio Art programs in Ceramics, Graphic Design, Painting + Drawing, Photography + Integrated Media, Printmaking, Sculpture + Expanded Practice.

  • Apply through the OHIO Graduate College: online application portal
  • Plan for $50 application fee for US Citizens ($55 for International)
  • Include:
    • Letter of Intent/Statement of Purpose
    • Artist Statement
    • Resume/CV
    • Three letters of reference
  • Submit a digital portfolio through the School of Art + Design SlideRoom site.
    • 20 examples of artistic work with information about each piece
    • $10 SlideRoom application

Send only one official set of transcripts to:

M.A. in Art History

  • Apply through the OHIO Graduate College online application portal
  • Plan for $50 application fee (for US Citizens, $55 for International)
  • Resume/CV
  • Writing sample
  • Three letters of reference

Scholarships and Tuition Waivers

All prospective graduate students who apply to the School of Art + Design Graduate Programs by the February 1st deadline are eligible for Stipend and Tuition Waiver funding. Consideration for these awards is based on the quality of your application materials and portfolio of artwork (M.F.A.) or writing sample (M.A.).
