President of the Health Policy Institute of Ohio to speak at CHSP Grover Lecture

Kelly Fisher

The College of Health Sciences and Professions will host a guest lecturer this Friday, April 10 from noon to 1 p.m. Faculty and staff are pleased to welcome President of the Health Policy Institute of Ohio, Amy Rohling McGee.

McGee's presentation, "Achieving Health Value in Ohio," will explain the Health Policy Institute of Ohio's new Health Value Dashboard, which is the first national scorecard to rank states equally on health outcomes and cost.

The Grover Lecture is an endowed lecture series and each year the College of Health Sciences and Professions works to bring in someone new to discuss a health-related topic that would be of interest to most students throughout the college, said Dean Randy Leite.

According to McGee, the presentation will address the concept of health value, and why it is important to evaluate both outcomes and spending when making policy decisions.

"The presentation also will examine why policymakers should consider aligning health spending with the factors that influence health, many of which occur outside the clinical care setting. Finally, the discussion will explore how Ohio ranks in the dashboard and opportunities for improvement," McGee said in an email.

The Health Policy Institute of Ohio is a nonpartisan, independent nonprofit organization that provides information to state policymakers, for whom McGee has been president since 2010.

She formerly worked in the executive branch of state government focusing on health policy and the state legislature as a Legislative Service Commission intern. McGee's private sector experience includes five years as the executive director of the Ohio Association of Free Clinics, representing health clinics that serve people who are uninsured and serving in a management position at FIRSTLING, now HandsOn Central Ohio.

McGee earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from The Ohio State University, and has received the Business First 'Forty Under Forty' award and the Ohio State University Alumni Association William Oxley Thompson award.
