Moms Weekend

May 4—May 6, 2012 

Please see individual events for ticket purchasing or event registration for Moms Weekend, May 4-6, 2012. 

If you have purchased tickets or registration to an event, please check-in at the event or the designated location.  

Guests in Bromley Hall and Foster House can check-in at the Residential Housing Office in Chubb Hall from 5pm to 6:45pm on Friday, May 4, 2012.  Room keys and important information will be distributed at Chubb Hall during your check-in.  

Guests arriving after 6:45pm will be able to check into the halls in which they will be staying beginning at 7:15pm by calling the number posted on the door of both Bromley Hall or Foster House.  Check out will be Sunday, May 6 between 11:00am and 12:30pm at the hall in which you are staying for the weekend.

Historically, one of the most popular weekends of the year is Moms Weekend. All Ohio University moms are invited to join us in Athens for a very special time.

The schedule of events for Moms Weekend will continue to be updated as additional information from student organizations and University departments is provided.  

Rooms in Foster House and Bromley Hall are sold out for Moms Weekend.  The Athens County Convention and Visitors Bureau maintains a list of local availabilities through their "Where To Stay" website located here.  The Hocking Hills also offers a lodging directory that may be helpful.  Their "Where To Stay" website is located here.

OHIO Softball v. Buffalo Bulls

Cheer on the Bobcats as they take on MAC rivals the visiting Buffalo Bulls.  This is the first game in a double-header versus the Bull.

Bahama Bring Your Momma

Friday, May 4, 2012 from 9pm - 12:30am, Boyd Dining Hall - West Green 

The Bahama Bring Your Mama event on West Green, a long running annual tradition, will feature a DJ and dance floor, crafts, video games, board games, Bingo, refreshments, and door prizes including an X-Box Kinect, an Amazon Kindle, a Ninja Mixer, and of course, more.

AZA! African Dance and Music Concert

Friday, May 4, 2012 at 7:30pm, Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium 

Come see AZA! African Dance and Music Concert!  The Ohio University African Ensemble, directed by Paschal Yao Younge and Zelma Badu-Younge, presents a concert of traditional and contemporary African music and dance.  Featuring special guest performance by Zab Maboungou. 

This event is free to Ohio University Students.
Tickets: $12 for general admission and $9 for non-OHIO students ans senior citizens.

Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 11am - 3pm, Ping Center 

Bring your mom for a day of shopping!  Visit vendors featuring crafts, jewelry, accessories and more!  Event if free!  Lunch is available for purchase and is sponsored by the Pigskin.  Tickets for lunch are $10 or $18 for 2 and are available for purchase at the Ping Center on the day of the event. 



Cinco de Mayo Zumbathon

Saturday, May 5 at 1pm and 2pm, Ping Center 

Show you mom how to Zumba with this Spanish inspired workout.  The cost if $5 per session and can be purchased at the Ping Center on the day of the event.  



Aqua Aerobics

Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 12noon - 2pm, The Aquatic Center 

Take a break from the heat and cool off at the pool with aqua aerobics.  Entry if $4 per person and can be purchased at the aquatic center on the day of the event.

Moms Weekend Golf Scramble

Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 4:00pm, Ohio University Golf Course 

Join the Moms Weekend 9-Hole Golf Scramble.  $60 entry fee per pair includes greens fees, cart, full catered dinner, and gift bag.    Each twosome will be paired with another.  

Registration will begin on Tuesday, April 10 at 9:00am (EDT) through the online Moms Weekend site.  



Fashion Associates Moms Weekend Fashion Show

Saturday, May 5, 2012, Baker University Center Ballroom 

Our annual Moms Weekend Fashion Show features local styles from more than 15 retailers around Athens. With the theme “Inspired by Audrey” from Breakfast at Tiffany’s, this year promises to be a classic and glamorous good time. 

Please join us for our raffle, starting at 12:00 noon, in order to support one of our dedicated members with a scholarship. There will be over 50 items donated from retailers from Athens to New York City being raffled off at $1 per ticket and $5 for six tickets. Our runway show begins at 1pm and is free for all moms, students, and the public community to enjoy! Free sweets will be provided. Hope to see you there!



WOUB's Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser

Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 7:30am - 9:30am, Applebee's Restaurant on E. State Street 

WOUB, Ohio University's public media service, is hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser, on Saturday, May 5 from 7:30am - 9:30am at the Applebee's Restaurant on East State Street.  

Tickets are $5 and are available at the door.  Breakfast consists of 2 pancakes, 2 sausage links, and a beverage. 

The mission of WOUB is to to provide a high quality public service to southeastern Ohio and portions of neighboring West Virginia and Kentucky. We also serve as a laboratory for Ohio University students, who are interested in gaining experience in broadcasting and related technologies.  Please join us to support out efforts.



Moms Weekend Ice Cream Social

Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 3:00pm - 4:15pm, Maggie K. Davis Room, 1st Floor, Baker University Center 

Take a break from the heat and stop in the Maggie K. Davis room for some ice cream sundaes or milkshakes on Saturday, May 5th from 3:00-4:15 p.m.  Alpha Phi Omega is raising money for Give Kids the World, a non profit organization in Florida for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. Please join us for some sweet treats while benefiting a great cause! Donations will be accepted.



Southern Ohio Copperheads: Wifflemania

Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 10:00am, McCracken Field 

The Southern Ohio Copperheads baseball team, in conjunction with PRSSA and Sigma Alpha Sigma Mu, will be hosting the first annual Wifflemania wiffleball tournament and Home Run Derby.  Both students and their Moms will be eligible to participate.  Visiting Moms will also be given the opportunity to compete in a Moms only Home Run Derby and prizes, food, and entertainment will be offered throughout the day.  Wifflemania teams will be composed of three to five individuals and the entry fee is $10 per person.  Included in this fee is the official Wifflemania T-shirt, a Home Run Derby entry for each team member, and ticket vouchers providing free admission to a 2012 Southern Ohio Copperheads baseball game.  The winning tournament team will receive a 42" LCD TV. Entrance into the Home Run Derby for those not participating in the contest will cost $5, with the winner receive the official Wifflemania Home Run Derby trophy.

UPC's 12th Annual Moms Walk for the Cure

Saturday, May 5, 2012 beginning at 9:00am, Ping Center  

Join UPC, students, mothers, faculty and community members in a scenic walk around campus as we raise money for the Susan G. Komen foundation for breast cancer research. Help us reach our goal of $12,000 during the12th annual Mom's Walk!

$15 entry includes t-shirt and entry.  You can register this week (April 30 - May 4) Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 11am - 2pm outside the 4th Floor of Baker University Center and Saturday, May 5 beginning at 9am at the Ping Center.  Cash and check accepted.

Take the Cake

Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 1:00pm - 2:00pm and 3:00pm - 4:00pm, Baker University Center Multipurpose Room (Rooms 240/242) 

A deliciously fun event for mothers and their OU students! Learn how to decorate a cake from a professional cake decorator; rosettes, piping and all. After completing your own miniature cake, take the treat home to enjoy! Cake and decorating supplies provided.

$10 per student/mother pairing (65 pairs per session)

Women Artists in the Kennedy Museum of Art Collections - Part I

Throughout the Weekend, Kennedy Museum of Art, Lin Hall, The Ridges 

The three-part exhibition Women Artists in the KMA Collection will highlight paintings, prints, and 3-D work made by women artists in the 20th century. Part I will explore the work of women artists who began their career prior to the feminist movement in art in the 1970s. The work included in Part I is for the most part abstract and in the form of paintings, drawings and prints. This exhibition will place these artists within the larger art world context in which they worked, exploring the relationship between gender, art making, and abstraction.

Ceramics from the Frederick Harris Collection

Throughout the Weekend, Kennedy Museum of Art, Lin Hall, The Ridges 

This exhibition features a selection of ceramic vessels and sculptural works form the Ohio University’s Alden Library Frederick Harris Collection. The Frederick Harris Collection, named for the donor and artist who compiled it, is composed of fine arts books, master watercolors, ink drawings and personal sketchbooks, and also includes artwork Dr. Harris assembled by other artists in a range of media, from delicate rare ceramics to works on paper.

Sha Sha Higby: Costumes and Drawings

Throughout the Weekend, Kennedy Museum of Art, Lin Hall, The Ridges 

This exhibition presents sculptural costumes and drawings by international performance/sculptural artist, Sha Sha Higby, who is known for her evocative and haunting performances using the exquisite and ephemeral body sculpture she meticulously creates herself and moves within. Elaborate sculptural costume, dance, and puppetry explore magic and emotion, creating an atmospheric world within the borders between death and life.

Selected Navajo Pictoral Weavings from the Edwin L. and Ruth E. Kennedy Southwest Native American Collection

Butterflies in Our Midst

Throughout the Weekend, Kennedy Museum of Art, Lin Hall, The Ridges 

A family-friendly exhibition that showcases images of butterflies represented in the collections of Kennedy Museum of Art and Huntington Museum of Art alongside Ohio University's Zoology Museum collection of butterfly specimen. This diverse exhibition includes butterfly imagery in jewelry, weavings, prints and ceramics, side by side a butterfly and moth specimen collection.

Teec Nos Pos: Navajo Weavings from Kennedy Mueum of Art Collection

This exhibition highlights the bold geometric design of Teec Nos Pos weavings from the Museum's collection. Teec Nos Pos, a Navajo community in northeastern Arizona, means "Ring of Cottonwood Trees."
