Historically, one of the most popular weekends of the year is Moms Weekend. All Ohio University moms are invited to join us in Athens for a very special time.

The schedule of events for Moms Weekend will continue to be updated as additional information from student organizations and University departments is provided.

Moms Weekend Dinner Theater: "Death and Taxes"

Friday, April 5 at 7:00 p.m., Baker University Center Ballroom 

Please join us for an evening of fun with Mystery's Most Wanted, a participatory theater troupe out of Pittsburgh, PA. They welcome you to join them in the Middle Ages, when peasants toil, rats frolic, and the king is... well, king! Pestilence and disease aren't the only things that are deadly, we hear that tax season might kill you too!

Moms Weekend Stargazing and Campfire at the Ridges

Friday, April 5, 2013 from 7:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m., The Ridges 

 Join Outdoor Pursuits and Astronomer George Eberts for an evening of stargazing and campfire fun. We will spend the evening roasting marshmallows, spotting constellations, gazing through a telescope, and listening to tales of the night sky and Ridges lore. Fee includes transportation and campfire snacks.

AZA! African Dance and Music Concert

Friday, April 5, 2013 at 7:30 p.m., Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium 

 The Ohio University African Ensemble, directed by Paschal Yao Younge and Zelma Badu-Younge, presents a concert of traditional and contemporary African music and dance.

Ticket Prices: Free for Ohio University Students with a valid OU ID, $12 General Admission, $9 Non-OU Student

The Rose Tattoo by Tennessee Williams

Friday, April 5, 2013 at 8:00 p.m., Elizabeth Evans Baker Theater, Kantner Hall 

 This comedy explores the price of devotion and the lies that love engenders.

Ticket Prices: Free to Ohio University Students with a valid OU ID, $10 General Admission, $7 Senior Citizens, $7 Non-Ohio University Students, $5 High School Students

Bahama Bring Your Momma

Friday, April 5, 2013 from 9pm - 12:30am, Boyd Dining Hall - West Green 

The Bahama Bring Your Mama event on West Green, a long running annual tradition, will feature a DJ and dance floor, crafts, video games, board games, Bingo, refreshments, and door prizes including a Pandora bracelet, a Keurig coffee maker, a Kindle Fire, and of course, more.

This event is FREE! All are welcome!

Movie Screening: "Amelie"

Friday, April 5 at 5:20 pm, 7:40 pm and 10:00 pm, Athena Cinema 

Come join us at the Athena Cinema on Court Street as we host special Moms Weekend screenings of the classic AMELIE! Share some laughs with Mom as you enjoy this great film during Moms Weekend.

Ticket prices are $5.00 for a matinee (any show before 6:00 pm) and $6:50 per ticket after 6:00 pm. Additional screenings on Saturday and Sunday.

Manic Mom's Night Out

Friday, April 5, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., 80 East State Street, Athens 

Manic Moms' Night Out is a sketch-comedy/rock and roll show that will keep you rolling in the aisles, thanks to the community and university comedy writiers and actors, and our house band Holy Spicoli. "That 80's Band" will bring you the hits Mom remembers and can't help but dance to. "You Will Survive" the easy walk from campus, so bring Mom "One Way of Another," and find our "What's Up!" Get there early for drinks and eats.

Tickets: $15

Shows start at 7:00 pm and 9:30 pm nightly with doors opening at 6:00 pm and 8:30 pm for food and drinks. All proceeds benefit Ohio Valley Summer Theater, Athens' non-profit community theater.

Native American Jewelry Show & Sale

Moms Weekend Golf Scramble

Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 8:30 a.m., Ohio University Golf Course 

 Join the Moms Weekend 9-Hole Golf Scramble. $70 entry fee per pair includes greens fees, cart, lunch, and gift bag. Each twosome will be paired with another.

8:30 a.m. check-in and 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.

Old Man's Cave Day Hike

Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. , Hocking Hills State Park 

 Join Outdoor Pursuits on a day hike through the Old Man's Cave regions of Hocking Hills State Park. This area is scattered with a variety of geologic features including waterfalls, sandstone cliffs and rock formations. With easy trails and rewarding scenery, this is a great way to spend a Saturday with your family! Fee includes transportation and guide staff. Trip departs at 10:00 a.m. and returns at 3:00 p.m.

BSCPB Moms Weekend Expo

Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. , Multicultural Center, 205 Baker University Center 

 Black Student Cultural Programming Board (BSCPB) will host the annual Moms Weekend Expo. Mothers are treated to massage, crafts, food, music, dancing and photography.

13th Annual Mom's Walk for the Cure

Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. , Charles J. Ping Center 

Join the University Program Council, moms, faculty and community members in a scenic walk around campus as we raise funds for the Susan G. Komen foundation for breast cancer research.

Registration: $15 includes t-shirt and event participation

 Moms Market is a market of local vendors where mothers and students can shop for items such as jewelry, clothing, arts and crafts, makeup, and much more.

Moms Weekend Fashion Show: Party at Gatsby's

Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Noon, Baker University Center Ballroom 

 Join the Party at Gatsby's hosted by the Fashion Associates. This Gatsby themed fashion show will feature clothing from local retailers. Refreshments provided.

Doors open at noon for pre-show and the purchase of raffle tickets. Runway show starts at 1:00 p.m. Entrance to the event is free. 

Take the Cake

Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., Baker University Center Multipurpose Room (Baker 240/242) 

 A deliciously fun event for mothers and their OHIO students! Learn how to decorate a cake from a professional cake decorator; rosettes, piping and all. After completing your own miniature cake, take the treat home to enjoy! Cake and decorating supplies provided.

3 sessions will be offered (1:00-1:45pm, 2:00-2:45pm and 3:00-3:45pm). $10 per student/mother pairing (one cake per pair). Only one ticket will need to be purchased per pair. There will be a limit of 16 pairs per session.

Zip Line Adventure

Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., Outdoor Pursuit's Ropes Course 

 Calling all Moms and students: Head for the Ridges to catch some air on the Outdoor Pursuits zip line! We'll provide the equipment and instruction, you provide the excitement as you climb to the take-off platform and fly down a 300 foot zip line. Destined to be the talk of Moms Weekend, so sign up early. You can zip anytime between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Fee includes all equipment, instruction, and optional shuttle to the zip line facility.

19th Annual Moms Weekend Cabaret

 The Epsilon Omicron Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. presents their annual Moms Weekend Cabaret. It is one of the classiest events during Moms Weekend where they provide live entertainment and food to celebrate the mothers  and community members of OHIO students.

"Woof & Wine" Tasting Fundraiser

Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 8:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m., 1804 Lounge (5th Floor Baker University Center) 

 Join the Athens County Humane Society in the 1804 Lounge for the inaugural "Woof & Wine" Tasting Fundraiser! Our wine educator will take you through a selection of decadent wines as you sip from your souvenir wine glass. Enjoy a selection of cheeses and crackers from Columbus, make memories with Mom in a photo booth, try your luck at door prizes and, of course, expect live music! The silent auction will include a wide selection of gifts from local retailers and services for both students and moms.

Athens Black Contemporary Dancers Moms Weekend Concert

ABCD's Moms Weekend concert will be a night packed with dance and fun for students and their mothers. There will be a variety of genres for everyone to choose from and will be sure to provide anyone's mom with enough fun and excitement for the weekend.

RHT Moms Weekend Wine Tasting

The RHT 3620 event planning class is holding a wine tasting at The Oak Room on Station St. The event includes wine tasting, border hors d'oeuvres and raffles for various gift baskets.

Moms Weekend Luncheon

Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., First United Methodist Church 

Join local students and their Moms for lunch! a minimum donation of $3.00 will provide you with unlimited grilled cheese, tomato soup, and salad. All proceeds will benefit Good Works, a local homeless shelter serving 9 counties in appalachia Ohio.

The First United Methodist Church is located at 2 South College Street. Please enter through the side door on Church Street as the luncheon will be held in the basement of UMC. 

Aqua Zumba

 Bring your swimsuit and join us at the Aquatic Center for a Zumba pool party! Everything you love about Zumba with splashing, stretching, twisting, and laughing. Join us with your mom for a water-based workout that's cardio-conditioning, body-toning, and most of all, exhilarating!

Pancake Breakfast Fly-in and EAA Young Eagles Rally

Sunday, April 7, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., OU Airport, Columbia Dr., Albany, OH 

Join the OU Flying Bobcats Flight Team at their pancake and sausage breakfast. Free plane rides will be available for kids ages 8-17. A variety of planes will be flying in to support the Flying Bobcats to take kids for a scenic flight over campus. Airplane ride registration starts at 10:30am at the airport. A legal guardian must be present for kids to fly.

A shuttle will be available at the top of Baker University Center every 15 minutes starting at 9:15am until 1:15pm to take you to the airport.

Cost: $6 for adults and $4 for kids. Payment will be collected at the airport.

Moms Weekend Bowl for Kids Sake

Sunday, April 2013 from 10:00 a.m. - Noon, Rollerbowl 

The event benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of Athens County, which provides programs and support to children and families in the Athens community. Make a $30 donation (per pair) to Big Brothers Big Sisters for one game of bowling, shoe rental, the Bowl for Kids Sake t-shirt, and light food and drinks.

Registration is not required and pairs can drop-in anytime between 10:00 a.m. and noon.
