Moms Weekend

May 4 — May 6, 2012  

Historically, one of the most popular weekends of the year is Moms Weekend. All Ohio University moms are invited to join us in Athens for a very special time.

Ohio Baseball v. Kent State

Friday, April 29, 6pm , Wren Stadium - Athletic Complex  

Cheer on the Bobcats as they take on MAC rival Kent State in the first game of a three game home stand against the Golden Flashes.  Game time is 6:00 pm.

Join Latitude 39 on the first floor of Baker University Center for a variety of dinner specials. Latitude 39 is Ohio University's flagship dining experience and features bold flavors and fresh ingredients, all served in a casual atmosphere. Outdoor Pursuits Stargazing and Bonfire

Friday, April 29, 8pm , The Ridges  

THIS EVENT IS NOW FULL.  Join Outdoor Pursuits and Astronomer George Eberts for an evening of stargazing and bonfire fun.  We will be spending the evening roasting marshmallows, spotting constellations, gazing through a telescope, and listening to tales of the night sky and Ridges lore.  A fee of $8.00/person is required and includes transportation and bonfire snacks.  All registered guests must meet at the Ping Recreation Center prior to 8:00pm, departure is promptly at 8:00pm.

Bahama Bring-Your-Mama Bash

Friday, April 29 from 9pm to 12:30am , Boyd Dining Hall, West Green  

West Green Residential Housing will continue to host our long-standing tradition of hosting an EXTRAVAGANZA of fun for students and moms.  We'll have bingo (of course), but we'll also have other games, crafts, a DJ and dance floor, a magician, free food and drinks, along with lots of great prizes.  This event is FREE and open to everyone.  See you there!

Moms Weekend Expo hosted by BSCPB

The SWEET LIfe - Annual Moms Weekend Fashion Show

Saturday, April 30 , Baker University Center Ballroom  

Please join the Ohio University Fashion Associates for The SWEET Life, the annual Moms Weekend Fashion Show.  Raffle begins at 12:00 Noon and the Runway begins at 1:00pm.  

You will have the opportunity to see local boutique fashions and can purchase tickets on site for raffles to win amazing Athens treasures.  Sweets and refreshments will be provided.  This is a FREE event and open to everyone.

Moms Weekend Golf Outing

Saturday, April 30, 3pm , Ohio University Golf Course  

Moms Weekend golf outing organized by the men of Pi Kappa Alpha - Omnicron Chapter.  Registration is $70.00/golf pair, is limited to the first 30 teams, and includes greens fees, golf cart, goody bag and catered food from Kiser's BBQ Shack following golf.  Prizes and raffles will be available with items donated from local merchants and individuals.  

All proceeds benefit "My Sisters Place," a local organization providing services to victims of domestic violence in Athens, Hocking, and Vinton Counties.



11th Annual Moms Walk for A Cure

Saturday, April 30, 10:00am , Begins at the Ping Recreation Center  

The 11th Annual Moms Walk for a Cure will be held Saturday, April 30th at the Ping Recreation Center and is programmed by the Ohio University Program Council.  Come walk to support finding a cure for breast cancer while enjoying fun with your family.  Raffle prizes and a silent auction will be held throughout the morning.  Proceeds directly benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.  Our goal this year is to raise $11,000 for the foundation!

The registration fee of $15.00/person includes a Moms Walk t-shirt.  Please note that this event is a casual walk, not a race.  You can register online or at the UPC table on the 4th Floor of Baker University Center from Monday, April 25 through Friday, April 29 from 11:00am - 2:00pm.

Outdoor Pursuits Moms Weekend Zip Line at The Challenge Course

Saturday, April 30 , The Ridges  

THIS EVENT IS NOW FULL.  Calling all moms and students - head for The Ridges to catch some air on the Outdoor Pursuits zip line!

We'll provide the equipment and instruction, you provide the excitement as you climb to the take-off platform and fly down a 300 foot zip line.  Destined to be the talk of Moms Weekend, so sign up early.  The $20 fee allows you to Zip as many times as you can stomach, any time between 1pm and 5pm. The fee also includes hourly shuttle service departing from the Ping Recreation Center at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, and 4pm, with a final returning shuttle to the Ping Recreation Center at 5pm.

The 2nd Annual "Take the Cake" Cake Decorating Contest

Saturday, April 30 from 2:00-3:30pm or 4:00-5:30pm , Baker Center Multipurpose Room, 2nd Floor  

The 2nd Annual "Take the Cake" cake decorating contest begins with a cake decorating tutorial from Ohio University alumna Amanda Ellis.  After the tutorial, teams of two, which consist of a mom and her student, are give supplies to decorate the provided cake.  The decorated cakes are then judged and prizes are given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.  

The registration fee of $10/team includes the cake and all decorating supplies.

Moms Market and Luncheon

Saturday, April 30 beginning at 11:30am , Ping Recreation Center  

Please join us for the annual Moms Market and Luncheon.

The luncheon begins at 11:30am while supplies last.  The registration of $10/person or $18/couple includes a BBQ luncheon including chicken, pulled pork, brisket, an assortment of salads, dessert, and drinks.  All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.

The Moms Market is a mix of local Athens vendors as well as Ohio University moms participating in a street fair inside of the Ping Center.  The market has attracted vendors whose products include handmade jewelry, pottery, birdhouses, "green" products, handbags and etc.  The market is open from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM in Area D and E and is free for students and their moms! 

These events will follow the Moms Walk for a Cure.

Friends of the Kennedy Museum Native American Jewelry Show and Sale

Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30 from 10am - 6pm , Kennedy Museum of Art, The Ridges  

The semi-annual Native American Jewelry Show and Sale is sponsored by the Friends of the Kennedy Museum and Good Girl Jewelry at White's Mill in Athens with proceeds benefiting Kennedy Museum Art Shop.  Shoppers can experience a visual feast of exquisite handmade jewelry and gifts.  The galleries at the Museum are open during jewelry sale hours.

Lloyd Moore: Without Pretense

Lloyd Moore: Without Pretense is a tribute exhibition to the life and creativity of the late artist Lloyd Moore (1931 - 2010).  The exhibition highlights works from Moore's living room and jail series, obituary collages, ad portraits from Lawrence County, Ohio.

Phantoms, Shadows and Phenomena

Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30 from 10am - 6pm and Sunday, May 1 from 1-5pm , Kennedy Museum of Art, The Ridges  

The underlying theme for this exhibition is the relationship between reality and illusion.  Using video and photography, Anges Geoffray, Corinne Botz, Adam Putnam, Dana Sherwood, Mat Collishaw, Laura Larson, Hirsh Perlman and Victor Vazquez present a world of reality that is questioned, performed, and at times embellished.

Selections from the Permanent Collections

Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30 from 10am - 6pm and Sunday, May 1 from 1-5pm , Kennedy Museum of Art, The Ridges  

With the theme of Environments, the works in the gallery focus on the issues of using and using up natural materials for creating artwork.  Specifically, the exhibition showcases weavings and African masks to illustrate the natural dyes or md or husks used in creation of these works.  The collections of turquoise jewelry are used to speak about mining and extinct mines.

Buttress by DeWitt Godfrey

Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30 from 10am - 6pm and Sunday, May 1 from 1-5pm , Kennedy Museum of Art, The Ridges  

Initially trained as an architect, artist DeWitt Godfrey explores the space between seriality and singularity, tension and dependence through a site-specific installation titled Buttress for the Kennedy Museum of Art.  The work is comprised of arranged tubes, made of Core-ten steel and bolts.

Inkahoots

Friday, April 29, 10am - 4pm and Saturday, April 30, 10am - 4pm , Howard Hall Site, College Green  

Inkahoots will start Friday the 29th of April and last until Saturday afternoon.  Make sure to pick up a shirt and get custom prints by Ohio University print students, as well as many other activities.
