Athens Campus
High School Journalism Workshop
Hosted by the Scripps College of Communication
When: July 6-9
Where: Virtual
Cost: $300
About: The three-day event will allow students in grades 9-12 to interact with professional journalists including Pulitzer Prize winner Howard Hoffman of Blackrock, Inc. and former NBC associate producer Ugonna Okpalaoka. Participants select from one of eight topics for their in-depth training: podcasting, graphic design, broadcasting, sports writing, news writing, magazine journalism, strategic communication and photojournalism.

High School Media Workshop
Hosted by the Scripps College of Communication

Cost: $550
About: The High School Media Workshop is a hands-on creative opportunity to explore your production passion. This overnight, on-campus experience will allow you to work with other high school students to create original work in the OHIO studio and lab spaces. The workshop includes overnight accommodations and dining on campus to immerse you in the Athens student environment.
Fine Arts Pre-College Programs
Hosted by the College of Fine Arts
When: Session 1: June 6–17 (residential stay June 5-18); Session 2: June 20–24 (residential stay June 19-25)
Where: Athens Campus
Cost: First Session fees are $595 with the option to enroll for 2.0 university credits. Second session fees are $375 and include 1.0 university credit. Residential stay with all meals included is additional cost.
About: Develop your personal voice while creating and performing college-level artworks in our professional studio facilities with OHIO’s Summer Studios. Intensive, hands-on workshops with the School of Art + Design featuring ceramics, graphic design, zines and comics, and figure drawing workshops. Filmmaking and 3D animation sessions are offered with the School of Film. Performing arts programs include the long running Summer Music Academy in the School of Music, the Summer Dance Institute with the School of Dance— this year featuring the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company—and both an acting and a music theater session in the School of Theater. ACMS Summer Music Week
Hosted by the Athens Community Music School in the College of Fine Arts
When: Week 1 is July 11-15 and week 2 is July 18-22, running 9am–3:30pm each day

Cost: $150 per week (+$10 registration fee), financial aid is available
About: For students entering grades 1-8. Join us for a week (or two) of music making together. We'll be singing, playing music, doing yoga, learning more about Spanish from Latin American music, and much more! Students will need to bring lunch each day. Ohio Business Week

Cost: Once accepted, students pay a fee of $599; financial aid is available to those students who qualify.
About: Join fellow high school students from across the state and region as you learn about leadership and entrepreneurship skills directly from business pros. During this transformational week, you’ll work as part of a team to develop a new company and pitch your business plan to a group of investors. Your time on campus will not only help you prepare for college and learn skills to be successful in business, but also allow you to meet new people who will become lifelong friends through fun activities beyond the business learning environment.
Summer Law & Trial Institute
Hosted by Center for Law, Justice & Culture in the College of Arts and Sciences
When: July 7-15, 2022
Where: Athens Campus
Cost: No cost
About: All participants will come to Athens on July 15 for the culminating experience—a mock trial that their family members can watch with Common Pleas Court Judge Zachary Saunders presiding. He's one of about 20 Ohio University alumni judges and attorneys who will be assisting in the institute. In the days leading up to the mock trial, these alumni and current OHIO pre-law and mock trial students will work in virtual sessions with institute participants, getting them ready for roles as prosecutors, witnesses and defense attorneys.

Kids in College

About: Kids in College is a summer enrichment program for students (K-8th grade) who are interested in science, history, art and many other educational opportunities. The program is staffed by a variety of enthusiastic, imaginative teachers and college faculty who are interested in working with motivated students.

Medical Academy

About: The Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine at Dublin is hosting its eighth annual Medical Academy health careers discovery program in partnership with OhioHealth. About: Join us for this introductory nursing workshop where you will learn how to: hold a baby properly, give hands-on CPR, recognize if there is a pulse, use an AED device on a mannequin and stop bleeding. You will also watch a labor simulation to see how a baby is born and watch a heart shock simulation.

Building Bridges Summer Institute (BBSI)

About: Building Bridges Summer Institute (BBSI) is an initiative that focuses on self-reflection, building community and engagement. Led by a team of trained facilitators, the BBSI will help students identify with their own culture, become informed about other cultures and behaviors and dialogue on current topics. Through interactive activities, guest presenters and discussions, the institute will build leaders who can recognize, appreciate and value their similarities and differences and those of others.

The Young Writers Workshop

About: The Young Writers Workshop is a topic and genre-driven retreat for developing writers. Students will learn the basics of various poetic forms and storytelling tactics from professional writers and instructors Barbara Costas-Biggs and Eric Brown. This weeklong event will consist of drafting and revising two original works of fiction and poetry, culminating in an open writers theater and digital collection of the student's creative endeavors. This workshop is intended for high school to college level learners.

Playing with Plays: Amateur Theater Workshop
Bobcat Academy Summer Program at OHIO Southern

About: This program engages young and amateur performers in plot, character, thought, diction, audition and spectacle. In Playing with Plays: Amateur Theater Workshop, students use their imagination to ground themselves in character, expand their senses while using theater space and dig deep into the circumstances that the plot demands. Students will perform a dramatic, shortened version of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island in front of a live audience, complete with props, costumes,and background music at the end of an intensive five-day audition, blocking and rehearsal period.

Bobcat Strong 2022: Let’s Get Moving!

About: Would you like to learn more about exercise and perhaps find some tips/techniques for motivation? Please join us for a week designed to explore a variety of fitness & wellness techniques. During our time together we will cover fitness concepts (and misconceptions) and play in the process! Each session will cover a new topic that allows time for discussion and 20-30 minutes of movement. This class is great for any fitness level (beginner to advanced). Walking into a gym or fitness class may be overwhelming or intimidating; we can help with form and confidence, so you take your newfound knowledge and put it into action! No equipment necessary but please wear comfortable clothes/shoes.

Spanish Language and Culture

The Science of the Wizard World

About: Students will get to spend each day as a student of a wizarding school. We will conduct experiments, make crafts, do activities and of course, watch Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone clips. Elements of biology, chemistry and physics will be taught throughout the course. We encourage students to wear their themed shirts or even their wizard robes. We want it to be as fun as it is educational.

Photo Editing Workshop

Measure the Height of a Tree

About: Learn to use basic math operations to find the height of a tree using different objects or tools, such as a piece of paper, shadows, a pencil, or a protractor.
