A Note from our Tournament Chair
As we look forward to another great event, I'll share with you the words of former Director Garon Gentzel, who summed it up best:
"We are committed to our mission of providing an event that builds a sense of partnership and camaraderie while fostering interaction among students, faculty, and industry professionals. Our history proves this to be a winning formula in making a meaningful difference, and we thank you for helping us fulfill this vision."
A Note from our Director
Dear Alumni and friends of the McClure School of Emerging Communication Technologies,
Last year we did not have the opportunity to see all of you in Athens. Our advisory board and all of us at the school, have worked hard to welcome you back to our fundraising and golf tournament event this year.
At the McClure School we are thankful for your support that provides peace of mind to many of our students. The golf tournament is an event that for over a decade has supported dozens of students with academic scholarships. You will have the opportunity to meet some of these students today at the event.
On behalf of the school, I would like to thank Nick Lathrop for his efforts over the past year to put together this event. Nick along with our Advisory Board have always shown incredible dedication to our school.
All of us at the school hope you enjoy your time in Athens and use it as an opportunity to reconnect with alumni, friends and our faculty.
Director, J. Warren McClure School of Emerging Communication Technologies
In 2002, Thomas Lonsbury — an avid golfer and member of the McClure School Advisory Board — suggested that the board establish a scholarship for outstanding students in the McClure ITS program and fund it with proceeds from a golf classic. The board agreed and promptly named Lonsbury chair of the advisory board for the Thomas Lonsbury Scholarship Golf Classic.
Lonsbury chaired the event until his death in 2012. That year’s tournament was the first to be called the Lonsbury Memorial Scholarship Golf Classic. Advisory board member Garon Gentzel took over leadership of the event for eight seasons. New advisory board member Nick Lathrop will continue the tradition of keeping our alumni engaged with their university.
