About the Collection
The Peter L. Goss digital collection includes photographs taken by Goss, an Ohio University alumnus (Ph.D. ‘73, Comparative Arts), of the Ohio University campus and the surrounding area from 1966-1970. Goss took the photographs as part of his academic studies, and as a freelancer with the Columbus Dispatch.
Images selected for digitization include campus photographs of demonstrations that were part of the nationwide Moratorium to End the War in Vietnam, protests following the May 4, 1970 shootings at Kent State University, and events such as the Black Showcase, commencement, and football games. Also included in the digital collection is Goss’ off-campus photography documenting vernacular architecture and local community gatherings such as the Athens County Fair, auctions, and motorcycle races.
In 2020 the Libraries published a digital exhibit, Framing Time: The Photographic Legacy of Peter Goss, 1966-1970, which features an interview with Goss and images from the collection.
