Libraries improve user experience with Library Search platform updates
University Libraries has launched an improved version of the Library Search catalog website, integrating the latest platform updates as well as enhancements driven by user testing. Since the migration to the Library Search platform in August 2025, library staff have listened to feedback from the University community, investigated reported issues, and made continuous improvements to the service.
In spring 2026, Libraries’ staff conducted user research with faculty and students to learn what pain points they encountered when using Library Search. The team took these findings and made user-driven customizations. Combined with vendor software improvements, the result is a more modern, streamlined, and user-friendly design.
The updated Library Search interface offers several improvements:
- modernized, simplified styling,
- improved accessibility,
- an easier-to-use Advanced Search module,
- refined search scopes that are more tailored to user expectations,
- more intuitive filtering of search results,
- reorganized requesting options to prioritize items available locally,
- a redesigned user account screen,
- a natural language “Ask Anything” search option,
- and a new Research Assistant that uses artificial intelligence to explore a topic.
The Libraries remain dedicated to providing the best possible Library Search experience to students, faculty, and staff.
