US: Scripps in NYC

Overview 

The program is focused on connecting Scripps College students to various aspects of communication disciplines and careers, in particular looking at new and emerging trends in the field. Students will engage with successful professionals from corporate communications, public relations, journalism, and various aspects of media production; and work in a team on a project related to one of the businesses they’ll visit and receive feedback from the contacts at that company.

Highlights and Excursions 

Visits with media companies, advertising agencies, and other NY businesses. Attending NYC productions for shows such as The Late Show, Drew, or The Daily Show, or other New York events (e.g., Broadway, professional sports--baseball, soccer).

• Timing:  Coursework for this experience is part of the Spring term. It will begin at the start of spring semester and include weekly meetings. Travel will take place immediately after finals week

Living Arrangements 

Students will stay in double occupancy rooms. 

Program Dates 

Spring 2027: 

• Coursework: start of Spring 2027 semester
• Travel Dates: May 2-7, 2027

Students will be responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from NYC.  Program will run from Sunday evening until afternoon on Friday. Plan to arrive by mid-afternoon on Sunday, May 2^nd; depart evening on May 7.

Students will take the following course for a total of 3 credit hours.

Cost

The following information is intended to help participants understand the estimated costs associated with the program.  For additional information regarding program costs, please refer to Understanding Program Costs for Ohio-Credit Programs.

The total estimated cost for 2027 (as of 8/24/2026):

• Undergraduate estimate: $2,484 +  3 Credits of Spring Athens-Campus Tuition/Fees* 

Tuition rates are based on participant's Tuition Guarantee or Graduate Program of Study (refer to Bursars for more information).

The credit hours offered for a Short-Term Spring program are part of the spring semester course load. Participants will not incur additional tuition costs for the spring semester if they are taking 12-20 (Undergraduate) or 9-18 (Graduate) credits including the credit hours associated with this program. Students taking less or more than a full course load will see their tuition adjusted accordingly.

Eligibility

The program is open to any undergraduate student with a major in the five schools in the Scripps College of Communication. Preference is given to sophomores and juniors at the time of the program. Seniors and freshmen, or students from other programs with minors in the Scripps College, may be admitted on a space-available basis.

Students who will be on probation at any point during the program for a conduct offense that took place less than a calendar year from the program start date may not study abroad.  Read the entire conduct policy.

Participants must have a at least a high school diploma or the equivalent (e.g. GED) by the start date of the program to be considered for eligibility.  Students enrolled in College Credit Plus (CC+) are not eligible for study away programs.

As part of the application process, applicants must submit:

• a DARS or unofficial transcript
• a 250-word statement of purpose, explaining what the student hopes to gain from the experience
• Contact information for two references

All applicants are interviewed by the Program Director.
