Brooke Popies
Beacon House: A Wellbeing and Mental Health-Focused Dormitory
Brooke Popies has developed a strong interest in how the built environment affects emotional wellbeing and behavior throughout her education at Ohio University. Beacon House reflects her desire to reimagine student spaces as warm, welcoming environments that reduce stress and anxiety while supporting comfort, connection, and choice. A key takeaway from this project for Brooke is that thoughtful design decisions such as materiality, lighting, spatial layout, and sensory experience can significantly influence how individuals feel and interact within a space. She aims to pursue a career in commercial design and continue creating environments that have the potential to positively shape emotional experiences and improve overall wellbeing.
