Jelena Mrvos
Hometown: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Expected Graduation: Spring 2019
As a Pittsburgh native, Ohio University wasn’t initially on Jelena’s radar but following a series of random events, she applied on a whim. Over the past three years, the charm of Athens hasn’t disappointed, and Jelena is grateful she chose to create for good at OHIO.
Jelena started as an undecided engineering major, but her first-year Learning Community experiences helped her realize mechanical engineering was the right fit.
Previously serving as president of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), she traveled across the country for national conferences.
During summer breaks, she interns at Omnicell in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and dives deeper into her undergraduate research. At OHIO, she works as an undergraduate research assistant with Timothy Cyders, associate professor of mechanical engineering.
Jelena spends her free time indulging in her creative side. A music lover, she’s been a member of The Tempo Tantrums – an all-female a cappella group on campus – for three years. She serves as music director.
