The Dr. Bentley Andrew Krause Outstanding Teaching Award

Department of Exercise Physiology
Marc Barr

Title:  Professor of Instruction in Exercise Physiology

This award honors the legacy of Dr. Bentley Andrew Krause, a beloved CHSP faculty member known for his kindness, dedication to students, and passion for teaching. Dr. Krause believed deeply in helping students reach their potential and creating learning environments where students felt supported, challenged, and inspired.

Nominated by CHSP students and selected by the CHSP Dean's Student Advisory Council, this award recognizes faculty members who demonstrate exceptional commitment to teaching, mentorship, and student success. Professor Barr exemplifies these qualities through his compassion for students, thoughtful teaching practices, and dedication to helping students thrive both academically and personally.

In a student nomination, one student shared:

“Professor Barr, from the first day of class, has been an extremely helpful and accommodating professor… He teaches in an amazing way that really helps us retain the information and provides so many resources for us to be successful in his class. Overall, Marc Barr is just an outstanding professor who deserves recognition for his friendly demeanor and compassion he carries for his students each semester.”

Professor Barr’s commitment to students is also evident in his philosophy of teaching. When asked during his award interview what he finds most rewarding about teaching, he shared:

“It’s the students… It’s really neat to see somebody who wants to be in the classroom, enjoys being there, and is excited to get their education and go out and help others.” -Marc Barr Teaching Award Interview

For the past 15 years at Ohio University, Professor Barr has dedicated himself to creating engaging learning experiences, supporting students through challenging coursework, and mentoring future health professionals. His passion for teaching and his genuine care for students embody the spirit of this award and the legacy of Dr. Krause.

Please join us in congratulating Marc Barr on this well-deserved recognition.
