Dietetics

An interaction between a dietician and security could occur when an RDN interacts with incarcerated patients or psychiatric patients. The outcome of this interaction would be a safe environment for both the patient and RDN.

Physical Therapy

A student physical therapist (SPT) has been working with an 85-year-old female who was admitted to a skilled nursing facility (SNF) 2 days after having her right hip fracture surgically repaired. The patient/client is progressing as anticipated and her goal is to return to her senior apartment. The entire team at the SNF values patient-centered care and collaborates on the discharge plan. The SPT has been working with the patient/client for two days on functional mobility activities. The PT goal is for her to be independent with functional mobility using a walker. Since the SPT has worked in the facility for only a brief time, the SPT approaches the occupational therapist (OT) and they discuss how a joint session with PT and OT would benefit the patient. The SPT facilitates a conversation about their respective roles and clinical strengths for working with this patient during the joint session.

SLP/Adult

An SLP student has made a recommendation for altered liquid texture to nectar thick liquids related to a swallowing issue. The patient has agreed, but in practice does not like the altered texture and is subsequently drinking less. There is a fear that dehydration will occur. The SLP seeks a consultation with a Dietitian to problem-solve with the patient.

SLP/Child

A child with CP is being fitted for a wheelchair, PT is involved and notices that the wheelchair is not being fitted for any type of tray. PT asks for SLP to be involved in the fitting so that the PT and SLP can work together to find the best position for the chair for the child to be able to access the AAC device.
