Philosophy (B.A.)
As a philosophy major at Ohio University, students receive an introduction to a wide range of substantive and theoretical topics that have been the subject in the Western intellectual tradition beginning in 585 B.C. and continuing through the 21st century. Through this exploration, students discover the process of intellectual growth and development is available to anyone with a sufficient degree of intellectual curiosity.
Admission Requirements
There are no admission requirements beyond University graduate admission requirements. This major is open to all Ohio University undergraduate students on the Athens campus.

Curriculum
Students in Ohio University's philosophy major gain historical and technical knowledge that is central to the discipline of philosophy, including knowledge of core concepts, theories, argumentative techniques, movements, and influential figures, within the subfields of aesthetics, ethics, epistemology, logic, metaphysics, and social & political philosophy.
Through the course of the program, students learn to reason clearly and carefully and to think creatively and independently.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of OHIO's philosophy program are ready for a variety of careers ranging from politics to business to service, and much more. Philosophy graduates are well suited for any professional role that requires critical thinking skills, an ability to communicate well, and creative problem solving.
Many philosophy graduates go on to pursue graduate-level coursework in philosophy, law, theology and other related disciplines.
