What are the requirements that need to met in order to receive academic honor cords?
To receive honors cords, your accumulative grade point average (GPA) as of the previous semesters grades, needs to match the following:
3.500 to 3.749, Cum Laude receives bronze honor cords
3.750 to 3.899, Magna Cum Laude receives silver honor cords
3.900 to 4.000, Summa Cum Laude receives gold honor cords
To be eligible for honors, you must complete a minimum of 30 semester hours/48 quarter hours of letter grades that affect our GPA in residence at Ohio University. The honors printed in the commencement program for spring semester candidates are tentative, according to the student's most recent accumulative GPA prior to spring semester. Final honors will be determined after final grades are processed.
Do Master's and Doctoral students get honor cords?
Tradition dictates that because Master's and Doctoral graduates wear hoods, they do not receive honor cords.
My organization stated that I would receive cords for being involved. How do I receive those?
Your organization will provide those cords to you and will not be available at cap and gown distribution.
