Keeping Bobcats Informed, Nov. 22, 2023
Parents and Families,
I can't believe the semester is nearly over. As University breaks and holidays approach, watch for adjusted hours for some of our campus resources and review fall closing information for residence halls.
For some of you, this may be the first time your students are coming home since arriving at OHIO, or some of your students might be staying in Athens with us. Regardless of what your holidays look like, find resources below on how to celebrate in a way that works for you.
For those of you with students who will live on campus next year, read on for information about 2024-25 housing, housing contracts, roommate selection and more. Our Housing and Residence Life team is always here to make your student's Bobcat Living Experience the best it can be.
If your student is graduating this semester, find info for the Fall Commencement Ceremony taking place Dec. 16. Commencement, finals and fall semester closing are all right around the corner. Please reach out if you have any questions as this semester wraps up!

Dean of Students
Celebrating holidays doesn't look the same for everyone, whether students are traveling, going home or staying on campus, we hope you have an enjoyable Thanksgiving. Here are some tips for students to make the most of the season:
- Celebrate where you are: See if you can travel with a friend, use time off to relax or catch up on studies, attend a free community meal in Athens, or plan a virtual dinner with family and friends.
- Create a support group: Connect with friends who you can share with about how you're feeling. Have them on call if you need to chat.
- Set boundaries: You can't resolve some family tensions, but you can remove yourself from the situation or sit out on certain holiday rituals. It's okay to say no.
If you need to speak with a counselor, call 740.593.1616 or the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988. You can also text HOME to the Crisis Textline at 741741.
Find your community and celebrate in a way that fits you this season.
The Center for Advising, Career and Experiential Learning (ACE) has all the resources students need to make the most of their time here. They can find an advisor to chat about their academic options, explore career resources, connect with alumni, start making plans for a study away opportunity, or check out their whole support network.
Residence halls closing for winter break
The residence halls will be closing at the end of the fall semester on Friday, Dec. 15 at 8 p.m.
Looking for more details on what to do, need a one night extension or housing support over break? Find the closing checklist, Fall Semester One Night Extension request, housing for winter break (Dec. 16-Jan. 11), and other important details on the fall closing website.
Fall semester closing floor meetings will take place Nov. 27 to Dec. 3. Students should check with their RA to find out the specific date, time and location for their floor section’s meeting.
2024-25 housing information
The 2024-25 housing contract and roommate matching will open Dec. 1, at 9 a.m. via your Housing Self-Service page. The contract will require a $200 deposit/pre-payment to complete.
Students who want to participate in the 2024-25 room selection process must submit their contract and deposit no later than Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. and will receive a random, computer-generated selection date for the process in March.
Learn more about Returning Student Room Selection.
Not sure who they might want to live with next year? Students should update their ‘Personal Information’ section on Housing Self-Service to make finding a roommate a little easier. They won’t be able to match with each other until they have all completed the housing contract.
Study support
If students need a place to study or meet with their group, come out to Jefferson Hall’s The East End on the first floor. The East End will have extended hours finals week and is open to all students.
Starting Friday, Dec. 8, there will be study snacks available as well!
Nominate a student leader
If you know of a student who has made a big impact on the OHIO community, nominate them for an award!
Applications for the Annual Leadership Awards will be opening soon.
Ace those finals
Find a tutor, get help learning new software or work through homework with a group.
Is your student a first-generation student? The Academic Achievement Center has resources that fit their unique experience as the first in your immediate family to attend college.
