Tutoring services are available online while classes are remote
The Academic Achievement Center (AAC) offers free academic assistance programs to all Ohio University students. From tutoring to reinforcing good study habits, we help students overcome difficulties they might have with coursework and collaborate with them in managing the challenges of academic life. Studies show that students who seek academic assistance tend to perform better in their classes and retain more information.
The students who serve as tutors and navigators are experts in their fields and trained following the College Reading and Learning Association guidelines on ethical standards and best practices. They are eager to share their knowledge and proven techniques to help all Ohio University students get the most out of their university education.
Remote Peer Tutoring
Student Writing Center
The Student Writing Center provides free online appointments. The writing center’s peer tutors provide writing assistance to all Ohio University students. These tutors can help at any stage of the writing process from discussing and organizing ideas to polishing a final draft. Writing tutors will not edit papers but will guide students in improving writing strategies.
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a series of weekly review sessions for students taking historically difficult courses. Sessions are facilitated by students (SI Leaders) who have already taken and done well in the course.
Online Learning Navigators
Students familiar with remote learning will help peers navigate and succeed in the online educational environment. Students can call on these navigators to aid them in mastering online course organization, managing assignment details, finding helpful resources, and understanding the technology required to complete assignments. Online Learning Navigators will customize sessions to fit students’ individual needs.

Appointments are made through TutorTrac, a web-based management system that allows you to search for and book appointments anywhere and anytime. Schedule online through TutorTrac or by calling the Academic Achievement Center at 740.566.8888. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org with questions.
Your tutor or navigator will send you an email including a link to your tutoring appointment, which will be a Teams meeting. You and your tutor will be able to use chat, audio and/or video features, share documents, and work together on the whiteboard.
Although we make every effort to fulfill a student’s tutoring request, there is no guarantee a tutor will be available for a particular course; especially during mid-terms and finals. Arranging a tutor depends on the number of qualified tutors and schedule compatibility.
Academic Assistance Hours

Peer Tutors have been selected because of their academic excellence and commitment to modeling successful student behavior. All tutors must have a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 and a "B" or better in the courses for which they can tutor and submit two faculty references. Qualified applicants will be invited to interview. Once accepted, tutors must complete training requirements. Training is a crucial part of our success to ensure peer tutors understand the learning process in relation to content knowledge and their own rights and responsibilities and those of the students. Tutors must complete a minimum of 10 hours of training and will participate in at least one observation and evaluation each semester. Additional training is offered throughout the academic year.
