English Major (A.B. in English) [offered through Honors Tutorial College]

Program Overview

The Honors Tutorial College major in English offers students a more independent approach to study than is usually available in the traditional classroom setting. The tutorial, a weekly one-on-one meeting with a faculty member, is the core of the program. While the tutorial hour focuses on students' interpretations of assigned texts, the tutorial program as a whole centers on the mutual engagement of student and tutor in the study of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama, including the historical and cultural contexts of these works. Students take an introductory tutorial, three tutorials in British and American literature, two specialized tutorials in an area of interest, and two semesters of tutorials focused on writing an honors thesis.
