For Admission to BFA in Dance Performance & Choreography, BA in Dance, or Minor in Dance Performance and Choreography

12:00 – 12:45 PM - Warm-up: A fun, relaxed warm-up session led by a current student

1:00 – 3:00 PM - Audition: The audition consists of class exercises in varied dance genres such as modern / contemporary dance, ballet, jazz, and African dance. Students do not need to prepare anything in advance, and they are not expected to demonstrate proficiency in all techniques. The audition committee seeks to identify each student’s unique talent and whether they are prepared for the rigor of the dance major. We look for spatial and rhythmic accuracy, physical strength and flexibility, technical proficiency in at least one genre, and performance quality. Students also demonstrate their creative abilities in improvisations and short composition exercises.

There is no fee to attend. Pre-registration is required.

Special Add-On Experience: School of Dance Open House

Come see what life is like for students in the School of Dance! Prospective students can select from optional activities such as dance class observations, class participation, campus tours, Q&A with the Director, or dance facilities tours led by student ambassadors.

Feel free to join us at 3:00 pm in the Shirley Wimmer Dance Theater for the Winter Dance Concert Showing. This works-in-progress showing will be performed by current students and will feature the dances that will premiere in February at the Winter Dance Concert, our signature mainstage concert of original dances by faculty and visiting artists.
