Global Leadership Certificate

The Global Leadership Certificate prepares undergraduate students for purposeful lives as leaders who understand contemporary international issues, are adept at mobilizing resources toward shared goals, and are able to build networks that link people with communities across the globe. Students learn to work across differences of culture, experience, and perspective, approaching social change as a participatory process through which they can help build more just, resilient, and connected societies. 

The program combines critical and creative inquiry with sustained engagement across cultural and linguistic boundaries. Students develop their capacity to communicate clearly, question assumptions, consider unfamiliar perspectives, and adapt to new environments. A year of foreign language study builds linguistic and intercultural understanding, while an immersive internship places students in a community or professional setting where they can build relationships and put principles of global leadership into practice.

Admissions

Criteria for admission includes: submission of a completed application form, a resume, a GPA of 2.75 or higher, completion of a bio paragraph, submission of a short essay, and participation in an informal interview.

Admission to the Global Leadership Certificate program will be considered on a rolling basis beginning fall semester. Admission is competitive and cannot be guaranteed to all students meeting the admission criteria. Interested students are encouraged to apply before their senior year in order to ensure they meet the requirements.

The global leadership certificate requires a minimum of 13 credit hours and includes:

Global Leadership Foundation: GLC 2010 - Pathways to Global Leadership course

Language Requirement: Students are required to demonstrate competency in a modern language through the 1120-level by the time they graduate.

Experiential Component: Students are required to complete six credit hours of courses that support applied, experiential, or integrative leadership experience.

International Component: Students are required to complete an international experience – study abroad, internship, research, or other experience – focusing on global leadership, with approval of the GLC director.
