Joe transferred to Ohio University because of his interest in environmental engineering in southeast Ohio. Joe attended post-secondary through his high school and received credit through AP course offerings. Joe is a two-time recipient of the Neil D. Thomas Civil Engineering Endowed Scholarship, the ADS Civil Engineering Scholarship, and the Ohio College Opportunity Grant.
Joe is a Robe Scholar, president of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) OU student chapter, and captain of the environmental engineering team that competes against other engineering schools in the Ohio Valley Conference. Joe is also president of Bobcats Building a Better World. Joe works as an undergraduate research assistant studying the treatment of acid mine drainage from a stream near campus and using it to create paint pigment.
