Activate Your OHIO ID

After Applying

To get started, it is essential that you activate your OHIO ID. You need your OHIO ID to access your OHIO email. Your birth date and your personal identification (PID) number (provided in your application acknowledgment letter) are all you need to officially activate your online OHIO access, including email.

Make sure you check your OHIO email regularly. All official correspondence will be sent to your Ohio University email account. Also make sure to check items in your MyOHIO Student Center To Do List for any necessary steps to complete your registration.

Complete Pre-enrollment Discipline and Criminal History Review Form

Immediately Upon Request

This quick, simple form is required for all admitted students as part of our commitment to providing the safest possible learning environment at Ohio University. The Required Pre-enrollment Discipline and Criminal History Review form is available in your MyOHIO Student Center and should be completed immediately. Disclosing a formal disciplinary action, charge or conviction does not automatically disqualify you from enrollment, but your disclosures will be reviewed. Based on your answers, we may contact you to request further information. The form must be completed, reviewed and cleared for enrollment before you can finalize your class registration.

Fund Your Education

Beginning in December

Ohio University is committed to an affordable college education. We are dedicated to helping our students find the financial support they need to discover their promise at OHIO. In Fall 2022, OHIO regional campus students earned more than $1.8 million in scholarships, and 99% received financial assistance.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) serves as your application for all types of financial assistance at Ohio University. The FAFSA results must be received by Ohio University no later than March 15, 2024, for first-priority consideration for all federal, state and institutional financial aid. Your application for admission serves as your merit-based scholarship application. For scholarship consideration, freshmen should submit a completed admission application by December 1, 2023. OHIO may continue to award using updated credentials received after March 15, 2024, on an individual basis.

In the MyOHIO Student Center, you can view account details, account balance and payment options. You can also designate authorized users to enable other individuals to view your account details and make payments.

Access Veteran Support Services and Benefits

Beginning January 1

As you prepare for the start of your educational journey, you should apply for your Veterans Affairs (VA) education benefits as soon as possible. The Brigadier General James M. Abraham and Colonel Arlene F. Greenfield Veterans and Military Student Services Center serves as the central point of contact for OHIO veterans and their dependents, including securing your VA education benefits. If you haven’t done so already, please complete these steps:

  1. Contact the Veterans and Military Student Services Center at 740.566.VETS (8387) or veteranscenter@ohio.edu to learn how they can support your student success and, if you are using your VA education benefits, find out what documents you need to submit.
  2. Complete the Application for VA Education Benefits. The VA will issue a Certificate of Eligibility to qualified individuals. Please submit a copy of this certificate to veteranscenter@ohio.edu or:
Veterans and Military Student Services Center
    Baker University Center 350
    1 Ohio University Drive
    Athens, OH 45701
  3. Complete the Ohio University File Card to inform us when you wish to use your VA education benefits. Sign in with your OHIO email and password and choose the appropriate academic year, semesters and VA education benefits you wish to use. This will need to be completed each academic year you are using VA education benefits.

Complete Pre-Advising Steps

Beginning in April

You will receive an email from your regional campus inviting you to review pre-advising information and complete mandatory online training. Students are required to complete both the Sexual Assault Prevention and Anti-Hazing training through the online training links provided.

You will receive a follow-up email to schedule an appointment after May 1 for class advising and registration.

Transfer Your Credits

Before Registration

Generally, college-level courses completed with a D- or better from a regionally accredited institution as part of College Credit Plus or dual enrollment programs through a high school are transferable to OHIO. Test credit (Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, College Level Examination Program) is also generally accepted, provided you earn the necessary score. To transfer your credit, you must have an official college transcript or score report sent from the college or testing agency directly to Undergraduate Admissions.

Register for Classes

Beginning May 1

You will receive an email to schedule an appointment after May 1 for a one-on-one advising session to complete your schedule. Your enrollment will not be final until your Required Pre-enrollment Discipline and Criminal History Review form is submitted, reviewed and cleared.
