Pre-IHS FAQ

I am in the Pre-IHS (ND6357) major, what does this mean?

Students are admitted into the Pre-IHS (ND6357) major when they do not meet all requirements to be admitted into the BSIHS. You will be able to work on your IHS courses while you work to meet the BSIHS admissions requirements. This may require that you complete a math course, or other requirement. You must also maintain a 2.67 GPA to remain eligible for admission into the BSIHS.

How do I view my DARS if I am in the Pre-IHS major?

If you are in the Pre-IHS major, you will need to request a “What-If DARS” anytime you would like to review your degree requirements. To request a What-If DARS, go to https://www.ohio.edu/registrar/adv.cfm and log into the Faculty & Advising Center with your OHIO ID and password.

Select the green “Request What-If DARS Report” button. Select "What-If" DARS report for an undergraduate major” and continue. Select your catalog year and continue. Select “Integrated Healthcare Studies” from the dropdown menu and continue, then submit. You will now be able to view your What-If DARS.

Can I graduate in the Pre-IHS major?

Students in the Pre-IHS major are not eligible to apply for graduation until they meet all requirements for BSIHS admission. Students must be admitted into the BSIHS at the beginning of the term in which they plan to apply for graduation. Ex: If you wanted to apply to graduate in the Spring Semester, you must qualify for the BSIHS at the end of Fall Semester. Work closely with your academic advisor to ensure you are working towards BSIHS admission and graduation.

What is a Math Placement Level?

If you have not yet taken a college-level math course you will need to complete on to be eligible to change from Pre-IHS to the BSIHS. In order to enroll in a math course, you will need to complete the Math Placement exam. You can email Tammy Matson matson@ohio.edu in the Math Department and she can arrange for you to take a math placement test online. Your DARS will then be updated to include the placement, and you will be able to register.

Admissions FAQ

What are the admissions requirements for the BSIHS?

Admissions requirements can be viewed on our course catalog page.

Where do I send my official transcripts?

Official transcripts can be mailed to:

Undergraduate Admissions
Chubb Hall 120
1 Ohio University Drive
Athens, OH 45701

Ohio University does not accept transcripts that have been issued to students, faxed transcripts or transcripts that have been opened prior to Ohio University receiving them. Please contact the appropriate institution and request that they send your official transcript to the above address. If you take courses at another University during your time as an Ohio University student, be sure to send updated transcripts to the correct address above.

Can I complete the entire BSIHS online?

Yes. The entire BSIHS can be completed online through eCampus. Although not all courses will be offered on eCampus every semester, there will be options to meet any requirements you need. Please register at your enrollment time to ensure you are able to register for the classes you need. We cannot guarantee seats will stay open if students register late.

Is the BSIHS a direct path for professional programs (ex. Physician Assistant, Physical Therapist, Medical School, etc.)?

The Bachelor of Science in Integrated Healthcare Studies (BSIHS) is not a direct route to professional programs. This is because most professional programs require that students complete at least one year of college coursework (including both lecture and lab components) in biology, general/inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, to meet their admission requirements.

For students who are planning to apply to apply to a professional program, we encourage you to research the requirements of the schools you plan to apply. You may complete these required courses in addition to the courses required for the BSIHS to qualify yourself for the program of your choice.

These advanced biology and chemistry courses are not available in an online format through Ohio University. You may be able to complete these courses at our Athens Campus or at another 4-year college near you.

Returning Student FAQ

What do I need to do to return to Ohio University after taking off a term or more (re-enroll)?

You are considered to be a re-enrolling student if you take a fall or spring term off, and then decide to return to Ohio University. Taking the summer off does not make you a re-enrolling student.

Students who have attended since 1985 (i.e., student record is in the student information system) must complete the Re-enrollment Form. Students who have not attended since 1985 must complete the Application for Re-enrollment. The forms are available on the Office of the University Registrar’s Forms page.

Graduation FAQ

How do I apply for graduation and why?

To graduate, all students must apply online through their My OHIO Student Center no later than the application deadline listed for the term in which graduation is planned.

The submission of a graduation application initiates the graduation process, which leads to the official conferral or denial of your degree. When a degree is conferred the Graduation Division of the Registrar's Office will include the degree notation on the student's official transcript, order and mail their diploma, print the student's name in the commencement program, and verify the award of the degree to prospective employers. Click for detailed information on the Graduation Process - Quick Reference.

If a student applies for graduation and the degree is denied, the student may reapply for their degree during the term they intend to complete their graduation requirements.
