Cherry Blossoms at Ohio University
The Cherry Trees are IN BLOOM! UPDATE Monday, April 5, 2021:The blooms are open along the Bike path and trees are illuminated near Wren Stadium nightly from 8:00-10:00 PM. Peak Bloom started around Tuesday, March 30 and usually lasts about one week. Overnight cold temperatures have only nominally affected the blossoms late last week, but this has not impacted the health of the trees, overall!
Come visit the blooms and tag @GlobalOHIO and #OhioCherryBlossoms to be featured on the tagboard, below!
Visit safely by following COVID-19 safety recommendations, including physical distancing of at least 6 feet, wearing masks, and gathering only with members of your own household.
Ohio University’s iconic cherry trees draw attention each year, as their blooms symbolize the arrival of spring in Athens. They were given as a gift in 1979 by Chubu University, located in Kasugai Japan, in honor of OHIO’s 175th anniversary. Celebrating the arrival of the blooms along the Hocking River each spring serves as a yearly reminder of the 48-year global partnership with Chubu University.
