Whether you’re just starting out on your path – or looking to change careers, re-enter the workforce, or focusing on your professional development where you are right now, we’re here to support you. Bobcat Network

The Bobcat Network website enables the entire OHIO community to build connections for today and your future.

That means networking with people in your region, college, or affinity; building a formal mentoring relationship; seeking jobs as an alumnus; sharing jobs with your fellow alumni, or micro-internships or projects for current students; getting word about events and learning about what's new on-campus; or sharing your success or questions with a wide audience of fellow Bobcats who are here for you.

Alumni FAQ

Why should I join?

Find a new job through a fellow Bobcat, or recruit a student for a short-term project. Connect with Bobcats in your industry, region, or areas of interest. Gain professional development opportunities, and share your work. Or, give back to OHIO by mentoring or hiring students. You’ll network with alumni all over the world!

I’m already on LinkedIn. How is the BN different?

The Bobcat Network is full of Bobcats willing to help other Bobcats. The connection we all share as Bobcat alumni is uniting, spanning generations. We are Forever OHIO. To help you complete your profile, you can import your LinkedIn data and reach out to Bobcats today!

How do I sign up?

Register with your email address. Answer a few questions about your expertise, what you’re interested in, and how you can help Bobcats. Connect your LinkedIn profile if you want, and you’re all set!

I’m signed up. Now what?

Join groups that align with your interests, region, or industry – and engage with those specific communities by posting discussions, asking for tips, or sharing your work. Respond to requests to connect. Post jobs in the Alumni Job Board for other alumni, or post short-term projects/micro-internships for current students. Post on the overall discussion board and share items of interest. Share with your connections looking to build their network. You’ll be connecting with fellow Bobcats to expand your own professional network!

How do I interact with students?

A lot of students will be networking for the first time via the Bobcat Network. Others have had loads of experience. Accept connections and respond to messages, while patiently learning where a student is on their journey. If the conversation gets too heavily into career coaching or other areas you’re not comfortable in supporting, refer them to the OHIO Career and Leadership Development Center for professional development help.

If you are receiving too many messages, simply go to your settings and limit your number of mentees/connections to a number you are comfortable with.

How does mentoring work?

Mentorship and networking are very similar, and both can occur in a variety of ways. We offer a formal mentorship program to encourage the potential for both short-term and long-term matching and education. Throughout the formal mentorship process, you will be required to meet with your mentee a set number of times as well as complete professional development trainings over the course of the program. This program requires longer time commitment than a single networking conversation, and has potential for up to a lifelong mentorship connection, if desired! If you are interested, you will need to complete an application here. This application will continually be updated and it does not guarantee you will serve as a mentor. Any questions can be directed to Chloe Irish, Assistant Director of Mentorship Programming, at bobcatnetwork@ohio.edu.

If you are unable to commit to this long-term mentorship option, we hope you will continue to make yourself available to students for shorter-term connections or conversations, whether that’s through one-on-one meetings or in group discussions.

I’m looking for employment. How can the Bobcat Network support me?

By joining the Bobcat Network, you will have access to our alumni-only job board. Some of these jobs are posted by your fellow alumni, others are pulled from our career database, Handshake. In order to apply to a job pulled from Handshake, you will be asked to activate your alumni profile. Handshake also houses career fair events that are open to alumni and you can register once you’ve activated your profile!

I want to share job opportunities with my fellow alumni. How can I do that?

The Bobcat family supports one another and Bobcats love working with Bobcats! If you have a job opening at your company, we hope you will consider sharing it under the “Opportunities” tab.

I want to share job opportunities with current students. How can I do that?

We love that our Bobcat alumni support our students in their career pursuits! To share a job opportunity or internship with current students, please email the Career and Leadership Development Center’s Event and Recruitment Coordinator, Katie Hankins at hankins@ohio.edu.

Additionally, you can help provide real-world experiences for students by posting short-term project-based work. Simply visit the “Opportunities” tab and explore projects. Templates are provided to guide you, if needed.
