Build Your Leadership Toolkit!

The Leadership Academy at Ohio University is a twelve-month program targeted to emerging and mid-level employees in public service who want to build their leadership skills. The program is a great fit for administrators from governmental and nonprofit organizations, as well as appointed and elected officials.

  • The Leadership Academy provides skills and knowledge to help individuals identify and develop their leadership performance. 
  • The Leadership Academy presents relevant and useful information which engages learners in the content of each workshop.
  • Completion of The Leadership Academy is a required component of the Ohio Certified Public Manager® Program.

Cleveland State University also offers a Leadership Academy. Either program will meet the requirements of the Ohio Certified Public Manager Program. 

Leadership Academy at Ohio University Curriculum

The program is twelve workshops, held once a month. The list below shows the topics for the in-person workshops. The order of the curriculum may change from year to year based on instructor availability. All workshop are 9:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.

 Leading with Strengths
 Crisis Leadership and Strategic Communication
 Preparing for a Changing Workforce
 Knowledge Transfer
 Strategic Thinking
 Performance Measurement
 Change Management
 Leading Through Conflict
 Inclusive Leadership and Belonging
 Capstone/ Graduation

Participants will leave each workshop with tools and techniques that are practical and can be applied immediately.

OCPM-LA Fall 2023 Cohort Information

The Capstone

In addition to participating in the twelve, in-person workshops, participants will identify, design, contribute to, and complete a group Capstone Project benefitting a community-based organization. This project requires work in addition to time spent in workshops.

Graduation

Upon successful completion of The Leadership Academy, participants will receive a certificate of completion from Ohio University. This certificate does not confer academic or continuing education credit.

Participants who have also completed the Public Management Academy at Cleveland State University will be eligible to receive their Certified Public Manager designation. The Ohio Certified Public Manager designation is awarded by Cleveland State University.

Faculty

Faculty include subject matter experts, practitioners, and guests with experience relevant to the workshop topic.

Location

The Leadership Academy is held once a month, in-person at the Ohio University Dublin Campus, 6805 Bobcat Way, Dublin, Ohio 43016.

Program Cost 

The registration fee for The Leadership Academy at Ohio University is $3,200 per participant, which includes twelve full-day workshops, instructional materials, and lunch. Parking is free at the Dublin Campus.

Ohio University reserves the right to cancel a program and refund the registration fee in the event there are an insufficient number of registrants.
