Application Deadlines

  • February 1 – Deadline for international applicants
  • February 1 – Application deadline for full consideration for Graduate Assistantships (both international and domestic applicants)
  • March 1 – Deadline for domestic applicants

Admission Requirements

To apply for the Community Dance M.A. program, applicants must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in dance in an accredited program, or a bachelor’s degree in a related field with demonstrated experience and training in dance. (An undergraduate degree in dance is preferred, but not required, for admission. In addition to an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution, successful applicants will have significant dance experience and a passion for bringing dance to community participants. Students without an undergraduate degree in dance may need to complete additional coursework to meet the competencies expected of graduates of the M.A. in Community Dance.)
  • GPA 3.0 or higher
  • Resumé or CV
  • Statement of intent:  Two pages. Why are you applying to the M.A. in Community Dance program? What are your future goals? How have your previous experiences and education prepared you for this program, and for a career in the field of community-engaged dance?
  • Transcripts
  • Three letters of recommendation. At least one of the recommendation letters should be from someone in the field of dance, and at least one should be from someone who has supervised, mentored, or observed the applicant in a professional setting.
  • English Proficiency Requirement: Please review information about Ohio University's minimum English Language Proficiency requirements for graduate study.

GRE? No, the GRE is not required for admission.

Interview: Applicants who meet the above criteria will be invited to interview with the dance faculty.

Transfer Credit Policy: Students are expected to complete all of the required coursework for the M.A. in Community Dance at Ohio University. In certain circumstances, students may be awarded transfer credit based on prior graduate-level academic coursework and/or professional experience. These opportunities will be discussed and considered on an individual basis. All transfer credits are subject to Ohio University policy.

For full consideration for Graduate Assistantship funding, it is highly recommended that you submit the following supporting materials:
