Eastern Campus Humanities Meta-Major
The Humanities Meta-Major, offered at all 5 Ohio University regional campuses, is a great option for students who know they are interested in a humanities-related field but have not fully settled on a major. Students enrolled in this program can explore their interests through courses like English, humanities, history, philosophy, languages, art, and religious studies to help narrow their options and select a major.
Most students choose a major within the first year of exploration, but students may earn up to 60 semester hours before selecting a major that they can complete on an OHIO regional campus or by relocating to the Athens campus. This pathway offers students the advising and support they need to ultimately declare a major in the social sciences that will meet their academic goals.
Admission Requirements
Freshman/First-Year Admission
There are no additional admission requirements beyond University admission for first-year students.
Change of Program and External Transfer Admission
Students with 60 or more semester credits transferring from other colleges within Ohio University may not select the Humanities Meta-major.

The Humanities Meta-major offers undecided students a pathway to narrow their interests before selecting a major. Students can explore departments in the humanities emphasis through courses in English, humanities, history, philosophy, languages, art, and religious studies.
Following this pathway helps students who may be undecided about a major by giving a purpose to their general education coursework. Check out the University Catalog to learn more about the program and view all course information.
Career Opportunities
Because the Humanities Meta-major is intended to help students determine a major, potential career opportunities depend on what major students ultimately choose. Connect with the Student Services Office to discuss potential opportunities further.
