James R. McKean, PhD Associate Professor of Law Enforcement Technology and RHE Program Coordinator received his PhD from Ohio University in 2011. His dissertation - First-time beginning Student Attainment: Examining The Role of Distance Education, reflects his student-centric teaching philosophy and remains a core component of his research agenda - exploring student retention and success. His scholarly contributions have appeared in journals such as the Journal of Criminal Justice Education, The Journal of Higher Education, and Human Communication.
Jim came to Ohio University after a 28-year career in law enforcement serving 13 years as the Chief of the Grove City (OH) Police Department and is graduate of the FBI National Academy. He served two terms on the Ohio Criminal Sentencing Commission appointed by Governors Voinovich and Taft.
His expertise in criminal investigation is internationally recognized as he represented Ohio University as a guest lecturer at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
