Miguel Gomez Probed the Pion Cloud and Motion of Sub-Atomic ParticlesMy research focused on spectral reduction on standard stars and supernovae in order to determine their evolutionary life cycle. One of my jobs was to understand the basics of IRAF (image reduction and analysis facility) and IDL (interactive data language), which I used to reduce and analyze my astronomical data.

Brittney Kenady Studied the Efficiency of an NE213 Neutron DetectorMy summer research at the Edwards Accelerator Laboratory involved comparing methods of calibrating our NE213 neutron detectors. Other aspects included operator training that involved general lab safety, theory behind how the accelerator works and of course the actual operation for experiments.

Ian Billig Explored Bayesian Methods for Analyzing Error PlotsTo any prospective physics students—if you enjoy mathematics and want a great educational experience that teaches you some very useful skills in math and programming, I would highly recommend interning in something theoretical. I came into the internship with not much experience, but along the way I’ve picked up many skills.
