FAQ for Textbook Information

Q: In the College of Arts & Sciences, who enters textbooks and materials for semester courses into the Registrar’s Textbook system?

A: Instructors of record enter information for their courses into the system. Notes and links also can be added for online materials and reserve materials at the library, among others.

Q: When should I enter textbook and materials information for my courses?

A: The Academics unit e-mails instructors of record when courses for a particular term are available in the Textbook system (usually several weeks before Course Offerings goes live). Entering the information early provides bookstores adequate time to stock textbooks/materials. Information should be complete by the time students register.

Q: What information needs to be entered into the system?

A: Please include textbook information such as ISBN, title, author, edition; approximate price; and required vs. optional. List any materials required (e.g., lab coat, hand lens) with approximate price. Please use Course Fee Note to explain what is covered by the approved course fee.

Q: I don’t require students to purchase textbooks or materials for my course. Do I still need to indicate that in the system?

A: Yes. Please use the Note radio button in the Resources tab for standardized messages.

Q: Where can I find information about the Textbook system?

A: Visit the Textbook System & Resources page for FAQs and training materials.
