CAS-IT Updates

Background

Microsoft has decided to phase out Basic Authentication in the second half of 2021 because Basic Authentication does not support multi-factor authentication which is the best practice for information security.

When the change occurs, any email client that utilizes Basic Authentication will no longer work properly. To reduce the impact of this change, Ohio University IT is proactively migrating potentially affected users to the recommended and supported email client Outlook.

How do I prepare for 2Step Authentication?

Duo Mobile App

The Duo Mobile App requires iOS 9 or greater or Android 5 or greater.

Email Access

With 2Step Authentication, email access is only available through certain applications, dependent on devices. Outlook Web Access is available on all devices with a modern browser.  All Ohio University Faculty, Staff and Students can download Office 365 at no cost, from this site https://portal.office.com.

Click the menu button in the top right corner (it will either show your initials or your picture) and choose my account. At the next screen, choose Office Apps to download the software.
