How Will You Get Here?

  • By Car

    There will be detailed signage along roadways to direct you to campus, your residential green, and your residence hall. We recommend turning off your GPS once you are in Athens and following signs instead.

  • By Plane

    The closest commercial airport to Ohio University is the John Glenn International Airport (CMH) in Columbus, Ohio. 

  • By Bus

    The Go Bus serves Athens with several regular daily routes connecting to Columbus (Airport), Cincinnati, Cleveland, Marietta, Parkersburg and spots in between.

Directions to Campus Greens

We recommend navigating with GPS until you see campus signage guiding you to residential greens and halls.

West, Upper East, and Side Five

These halls include:

  • West - Boyd, Convo, James, Ryors, Sargent, Treudley, Wilson
  • Upper East - 4 University Terrace, Bryan, Voigt
  • Side Five - Adams, Carr, Luchs, Sowle, Tanaka

Coming from US 33 W/ US 50 E/ OH 32 E

  • Take exit for SR 682 North
  • Follow the signage on campus for specific areas

Coming from US 50 West/ US 33 East

  • Take exit for SR 682 North
  • Follow the signage on campus for specific areas

Lower East, Front South, and Back South

These halls include:

  • Lower East -  Biddle, Bush, Gamertsfelder, Jefferson, Johnson, Lincoln, Perkins, Read, Shively, Tiffin, Washington
  • Front South- Brown, Crawford, Mackinnon, McDavis, Pickering
  • Back South - Dougan, Ewing, Hoover, True, Wray

Coming from US 33 East

  • Keep left when entering Athens for US 50/32 East
  • Take right exit for Rock Riffle Rd.
  • Make a right turn at the stop sign
  • Take a left onto Stimson Ave. at the first light
  • Use traffic circle and take N. McKinley Ave/1804 Way
  • Follow the signage on campus for specific areas

Coming from US 50 West

  • Take left exit #173A for Stimson Ave traffic circle
  • Take the first exit on the traffic circle
  • Go straight on Stimson Ave and then use the next traffic circle to take N. McKinley Ave/1804 Way
  • Follow the signage on campus for specific areas

Parking

30-minute unloading zones will be available in campus parking lots and designated spaces adjacent to the residence halls. Please follow all campus signage.

Once belongings are unloaded please move your vehicle to an extended parking area.

Meters in a variety of locations throughout campus will be designated as move-in unloading zones with a 30-minute maximum to accommodate those needing close access to the residence halls. Designated parking areas will be noted with signage.

Parking lots on campus are labeled by color on permanent signage. Extended parking can be found in any dark green or purple lot on campus that is not specifically marked as 30-minute unloading zone.

Parking Details

Parking is NOT permitted in fire lanes.

While parking on the grass is not normally permitted, a special exception will be made in certain areas to accommodate a large number of vehicles moving into residence halls. Please only utilize parking within the grass in approved locations as directed by an OHIO staff member.

Athens City parking (including metered parking) and private apartment complex parking enforcement are still in effect during move-in.

Campus shuttles can help you get around once you are on campus.

Daily Campus Shuttles: CATS

CATS is a free shuttle service for students and visitors traveling to multiple destinations throughout campus. Campus shuttles are available to help you get around once you’re on campus. Please note that some routes may operate on modified service hours during the move-in period.

CATS Schedule and Routes

Evening & Weekend Shuttles: CATS Late Night

CATS Late Night is a free on-demand transit service for students and visitors at night, providing a safe and secure method of travel across campus. Riders are encouraged to schedule rides in advance. Requests for on-demand service are also accepted. Wait times are dependent on demand.

Accessibility Transit: CATCAB

For those needing additional accessibility support, Paratransit services are available through CATCAB, which offers limited and permanent mobility transportation.

Community Shuttles: Bobcat Pass

Students can also use the Bobcat Pass (Athens Public Transit Partnership), which provides both campus and community fixed-route service. Your student ID card serves as an unlimited fare card for these routes.
