Transportation and Parking

Arriving in Athens

  • Directional signage will be posted along US 33, US 32, US 50 and throughout campus to guide individuals to the appropriate residential greens.
  • OHIO Staff will be available to help direct traffic to residence halls and answer questions about where individuals can unload belongings.
  • Individuals with disabilities or who require special assistance must request help in advance of arrival by calling Housing and Residence Life at 740-593-4090.
  • 30 minute unloading will be available in campus parking lots and designated metered spaces adjacent to residence halls, please follow campus signage.
  • Once belongings are unloaded an OHIO staff member will help direct vehicles to extended time limit parking areas.
  • Please note that Early Arrival Move-In on August 17 will have limited resources available.

West/Central/South Greens

Coming from US 33 W/ US 50 E/ OH 32 E

- Take exit 17 for SR 682 north
- Follow the signage on campus for specific areas

Coming from US 50 West/ US 33 East

- Take exit 17 for SR 682 north
- Follow the signage on campus for specific areas

East Green

Coming from US 33 East

- Keep left when entering Athens for US 50/32 East
- Take exit 16B for Stimpson Ave.
- Use traffic circle and take N. McKinley Ave/1804 Way.
- Follow the signage on campus for specific areas.
 

Coming from US 50 West

- Take exit 16C for Co Rd 25/Stimpson Ave.
- Turn right on Co Rd 25
- Turn left on Stimpson Ave.
- Use traffic circle and take N. McKinley Ave/1804 Way.
- Follow the signage on campus for specific areas.
 

Coming from US 33 W/ US 50 E/ OH 32 E

- Take exit 16C for Co Rd 25/ Stimpson Ave.
- Turn left on Co Rd. 25
- Continue Right on Co Rd. 25
- Turn left on Stimpson Ave.
- Use traffic circle and take N. McKinley Ave/1804 Way.
- Follow the signage on campus for specific areas.

Students moving into the following residence halls: Adams, Tanaka, Luchs, Carr, and Sowle
Take exit 17 for SR 682 north
- Continue onto Richland Ave.
- Turn right onto South Green Dr.
- Follow the signage on campus for specific areas

Parking

In an effort to accommodate move-in needs, the dark green and purple lots on campus will be available for parking. Parking is NOT permitted in fire lanes.

While parking on the grass is not normally permitted a special exception will be made in certain areas to accommodate a large number of vehicles moving into residence halls. Please only utilize parking within the grass in approved locations as directed by an OHIO staff member.

Athens City parking enforcement is still in effect during move-in. If you park at an off campus meter, please pay the meter.

  • Lots 114 & 115 (James/Wilson Halls)

Meters in a variety of locations throughout campus will be  designated as move-in parking with a 30-minute parking maximum to accommodate those needing close access to residence halls. Designated move-in parking areas will be noted with signage at the entrance stating: “Move-In Parking, 30 Minute Loading/Unloading."

  • Lot 143 (Central Food Facility - West Green)

Extended parking for Thursday, Aug. 22 through Sunday, Aug. 25 can be found in any dark green or purple lot on campus that is not marked as move-in parking, 30-minute limit.

Transportation & Parking Office Hours & Contact Information

Transportation and Parking Services will hold special operating hours at Baker University Center for move-in weekend on Saturday, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to assist customers needing parking for the fall semester.

Transportation Information

In an effort to provide safe transportation alternatives to students and their guests during Welcome Week activities, Ohio University's Late Night transit operation, CATS, will provide transit opportunities during Welcome Week August 19-23.  Transit will be available between the hours of 5:30 pm until 3:30 am.  Customers wishing to use this free service may request a ride by calling or texting 740-593-4040. 

Rides may also be pre-scheduled via this same method or by emailing transportation@ohio.edu.

Daily Campus (CATS & evening & weekend shuttles/CATS Late Night) will be in operation over welcome week August 19-23 and throughout the academic year to support campus travel needs.

Daily Campus Shuttles (CATS): (link to web) Monday-Friday 7AM-5:30PM. Dedicated transit loops servicing campus facilities.

Evening & Weekend Shuttles (CATS Late Night): (link to web) Monday-Friday 5:30PM-3AM, Saturday-Sunday 9:30PM-3AM. Call or text 740-593-4040 to request/reserved a ride.
