Voinovich School seeking alumni and partners to mentor current students

August 22, 2017

Alumni and partners of Ohio University’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs are engaged in a wide range of public, private sector and non-profit careers. They have gained valuable insights from years of experience as practitioners in state and local government, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector. The Voinovich School is seeking practitioners in state and local government, non-governmental organizations and the private sector to share their expertise and serve as mentors for the School’s current students.

The Voinovich School’s mentorship program allows students to connect with the School’s alumni and partners to better understand the practical realities of the professional lives that they will one day face. The program enhances the student experience and provides them the following additional opportunities:

  • Building strong networks for students with alumni and their extended contacts;
  • Providing practical advice for successfully working in a variety of public and private work settings;
  • Advising students on skill sets, experiences, and areas of expertise that are valued within a variety of public and private work settings;
  • Connecting Voinovich School students with internship and work opportunities;
  • Offering opportunities for two-way learning between mentors and students.

Mentors interested in participating should have existing connections to Ohio University and agree to interact with students on at least four occasions or a minimum of four hours throughout each semester by telephone and/or in person, for at least two semesters. The primary goal of these individualized interactions is to have an agenda-driven discussion to help students better understand the practical realities of their mentors’ professional lives, including the professional skills and abilities that matter most.

For further information, please consult the Mentorship Toolkit for Mentors. If you are interested in participating and engaging with the Voinovich School’s students, please complete this form in order to be considered.
