At the Scripps College of Communication, we're diving deep into the communication world, exploring everything from how we interact today to where media is heading tomorrow. Our faculty and students are leading exciting research and creative projects that cover the whole spectrum — from tackling tough questions about social impact and media ethics to pioneering work in emerging fields such as AR/VR, health communication, AI, and engaging multimedia.

School of Journalism Hosts First OHIO Makers Summit

    The event featured creators and journalists, including OHIO alumni, who are leading new media industry areas through social platforms, AI, newsletters and podcasts. Jason and Micaylah Preston presented the opening keynote, with panels throughout the day featuring Bronson Allison, Amber Hunt, Amanda Rossmann, Kat Tenbarge, and Kristy Wedel. The event was made possible thanks to support from the Henry D. and Barbara J. Wolpert Living Trust and the Scripps Howard Fund.

    50 Grad Students, Faculty Present at NCA Convention


    Scripps College of Communication scholars explored pressing issues and topics in the field’s premier academic gathering: the National Communication Association’s 111th annual convention. More than 50 Scripps graduate students and faculty presented their research as part of the “Communicate to Elevate” event in November.

    Science Cafe: How to Bend Minds: OU, VR, and the FBI


    In his Science Cafe talk, "How to Bend Minds: OU, VR, and the FBI," Eric Williams discusses theoretical concepts applied to CINE VR Law Enforcement Training. illiams has an Emmy Award for Interactive Media, a WGA Award for Best New Screenplay, and an FBI National Academy Award for Science and Innovation.

    Visual Discovery Conference: Global Storytelling and Cultural Exchange


    The Visual Discovery Conference is a five-day cultural exchange where design students and faculty from universities around the world collaborate to tell visual stories rooted in the identity of a host city. The 2025 conference in Augsburg featured 83 students and 14 educators.

    Josh Antonuccio: OHIO’s Music Mogul


    "I became totally captivated with music from an early age, and that passion just took me all the way up through playing in bands in high school, in college, and just wanting to be around that world," says Josh Antonuccio as he reflects on his successful career, diverse interests and passion for teaching.

    'Blaming the Victims in Bangladeshi Newspapers'


    Ibrahim bin Harun, doctoral student at the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, co-authored a book chapter in the Handbook of Migration, International Relations and Security in Asia: "The Rohingya Crisis and the Elite Agenda: Blaming the Victims in Bangladeshi Newspapers."

    'Viral News About Vulnerable People'


    Prakash Acharya, a Ph.D. student in Mass Communication-Journalism, published his second article during his PhD education, this one published as a first author (and first as a solo author) In Electronic News: "Viral News About Vulnerable People: Issues in Nepal's YouTube-Based Alternative Media."
