Emerging Presidential Research Scholar Award

Purpose
The Emerging Presidential Research Scholar Award (E-PRS) recognizes outstanding, emerging tenure-track faculty who have demonstrated excellence in research, scholarship and creative activity.
The number of awards will be determined based on the assessment of the applicant pool.
Eligibility
Full-time, tenure-track, faculty who:
- Have been OHIO faculty for at least three years at the time of the award nomination.
- Are at least 3 and no more than 9 years of being hired into any tenure-track position (at OHIO or elsewhere). An exception may be granted for tenure-track positions at institutions without research expectations; contact research@ohio.edu.
- Are no more than two years post receiving tenure.
Faculty can only receive this award once.
Criteria
Criteria include emerging faculty who demonstrate:
- Significant contributions to their field through their research/creative works; and
- Clear promise for continued, significant productivity in their research/creativity.
Nomination, Review and Selection
Colleges submit applications to the Vice President for Research and Creative Activity (VPRCA) at research@ohio.edu with the subject heading “Emerging Presidential Research Scholar Nomination”. Note, each college will be responsible for setting their own deadlines and criteria for accepting and reviewing applications.
The VPRCA, in consultation with the Provost, will make selections based on recommendations from the Council for Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity.

Application
The following must be submitted (in this order) as one PDF document:
- Letter of nomination from department chair, school director or Center/Institute director (limit = 2 single-space pages)
- Narrative from nominee that highlights their significant contributions to their field through research or creative works and demonstrates their clear promise for continued, significant productivity (limit = 2 single-spaced pages, 1” margins, 12-point font)
- Progress toward tenure letters or annual evaluation letters (no more than 3 letters)
- Nominee’s curriculum vitae
- Up to two external letters of recommendation. These can be letters that were obtained for consideration of tenure; or new solicited letters.
- No additional materials should be included.
Completed nominations, with all supporting documentation, must be submitted by the College to the Vice President for Research and Creative Activity by the deadline at research@ohio.edu with the subject heading “Emerging Presidential Research Scholar Nomination”.
Recognition
The recipients of the OHIO Emerging Faculty Researcher/Artist Award will be recognized at an annual university faculty awards celebration. Recipients will receive a cash award of $6,000.
