Why Concourse Syllabus?

Concourse is a centralized syllabus management system designed to standardize course information across the institution. To comply with the Ohio Senate Bill 1, Ohio University has adopted Concourse as the tool to design publicly accessible and searchable syllabi.

Do I have to use Course Syllabus in my course?

Yes. The use of Course Syllabus is a mandatory requirement for all undergraduate courses. Additionally, check with your department chair or program coordinator if you teach graduate level courses.

Where can I find Course Syllabus in my Canvas course?

Course Syllabus is located on the course navigation menu (left-hand side) in your specific course in Canvas.

If the Course Syllabus* link is not on the course navigation menu, follow these steps to enable it:

  • In the left-hand Canvas course navigation (at the bottom), click Settings.
  • Click on the Navigation tab.
  • Scroll down to the disabled navigation items, locate Course Syllabus*.
  • Click on the 3 dots to right of Course Syllabus*, click Enable.
  • Click Save (located at the bottom of page)
Do I have to create my syllabus from scratch?

No. To ensure university-wide consistency, Ohio University template is already pre-loaded in Concourse. You only need to complete the sections that require your specific instructor details and individual course information.

Can I copy content from one syllabus to another?

Yes, you can. Course Syllabus is designed to make this easy so you don't have to manually re-type your information for every section or semester.

How do I edit my Course Syllabus?

  • In your syllabus, click the Syllabus tab (top left of screen), select Edit.
  • Scroll down to the section labeled Course Syllabus.

Can students see the Course Syllabus in Canvas?

Yes, students have full access to the Course Syllabus directly within Canvas. Students will see Course Syllabus link on their course navigation menu exactly where you see it.

Will changes I make in Canvas update Course Syllabus automatically?

No. While both are accessible in Canvas, they are separate platforms and do not sync automatically. Any changes you wish to make to your Course Syllabus must be made directly within the Concourse interface.

Can I attach files or add links to the Course Syllabus Tool?

Yes and No. You can add web links (URLs) to your Course Syllabus to direct students to external resources, videos, or websites. However, Course Syllabus does not support direct file uploads (such as PDFs or Word docs). This is to ensure that all syllabus content remains fully accessible, searchable, and compliant with Ohio SB 1 standards.

Who should I contact for support with Course Syllabus?

For any questions or training needs regarding Concourse, please contact the Office of Instructional Design (OID). Our team is available to help you navigate the system, and ensure your syllabus meets university standards. Contact OID@ohio.edu

Is this replacing my full syllabus?

No. The Concourse Course Syllabus captures only the five elements required by Ohio law. Faculty can continue sharing their full syllabus and additional course information through Canvas as usual.

Do I have to use Canvas to enter the Course Syllabus?

Yes. Canvas is the required platform for entering the Course Syllabus using the integrated Concourse tool.

What if I combine multiple course sections in Canvas?

Follow the guidance provided on the Concourse Syllabus resource website to ensure the required syllabus information is entered correctly for each class section.

When will the Course Syllabus be publicly available?

The syllabus information entered into Concourse will be available through a public search beginning August 21, the Friday prior to the start of the fall semester.
