Colloquium

Cutler Colloquium is a weekly seminar that challenges scholars to engage in civil debate about major social issues and trains them to think critically and collaborate with people in other academic fields.

Why? We believe that practicing leadership for social change requires space for critical reflection, exposure to widely differing perspectives, and interdisciplinary dialogue. Once a week, Cutler Colloquium brings small groups of scholars together to discuss the local and global challenges facing contemporary society and investigate a range of approaches to advocate for positive social change. The topics change every semester to reflect current issues and resonate with scholars’ enrichment experiences, but the format remains the same: Cutler Scholars lead discussions in which they think deeply about what it means to “make a difference” and challenge each other’s assumptions about how to do so. Rotating facilitators and guest lecturers, drawn from outstanding Ohio University faculty as well as visitors to campus, enrich the discussions.
