Admission Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering: The basic requirement for admission is a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Applicants holding degrees in closely related fields or from non-accredited engineering institutions may be required to compensate for deficiencies with additional coursework prescribed by the department.
• The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) general test is required for all applicants (recommended: 153 verbal/ 161 quantitative).
• GPA: The requirement for minimum undergraduate grade point average (GPA) is 3.0.
• Three letters of recommendation are required from persons who can attest to the applicant’s academic and research aptitude.

GPA, GRE and TOEFL scores, and engineering accomplishments are all considerations for admission, as well as for consideration of awarding tuition scholarships and stipends.

Mechanical Engineering M.S. Course Requirements

OHIO’s Master of Science in mechanical engineering requires a minimum of 30 credit hours. Students must select 6 credits of mechanical engineering coursework at a 5000-level or above, of which at least 3 credits must be at the 6000-level or above. All students must complete additional elective credits to meet the 30 total credits requirement from any 5000-level or above engineering class.

Both thesis and non-thesis options are available to students receiving support from the department or college without special circumstances approved by both the Graduate Chair and the Graduate Committee.
