History and Heritage Programming

Each year, Ohio University celebrates the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. throughout the month of January.

Black History Month, during February, is a time to recognize the important contributions of the Black community throughout American history.

Women’s History Month, celebrated in March, is a time to uplift the women-identifying individuals in our lives.

Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, taking place during May, is a time to celebrate our community members with Asian American and Pacific Islander backgrounds.

Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th each year, marks our country’s second Independence Day.

National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated annually from September 15 to October 15 to recognize and uplift the contributions of those of Hispanic descent and celebrate Hispanic culture.

LGBTQIA+ History Month in October recognizes the history and ongoing struggles of the gay rights and related civil rights movements and the experiences and achievements of the LGBTQIA+ community.

We use the month of November to commemorate the history and heritage of indigenous and Native Americans, and those with American Indian and Alaska Native backgrounds.
