Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month is a time to celebrate our community members with Asian American and Pacific Islander backgrounds. AAPI Heritage Month takes place nationally during the month of May.

Start of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month

In 1978, Congress passed a resolution creating Asian American/Pacific Islander Heritage Week. In May 1992, it expanded to the observance of the month of May.

Henry Lin, assistant professor of ceramics at Ohio University, stands before the facade he designed and constructed ​​​​​​for the main entrance of the Space Arts Building (Seigfried Hall) in 1962. ​Lin served as dean of the College of Fine Arts, 1972-1984.

In October 2021, the Athens Asian American Alliance organized the local and university AAPI communities to add AAPI presence in the Homecoming Parade for the first time.

The AAPISU was established alongside AAPI-Lead and AAAA in 2021 to round out opportunities for community members, faculty, and students to find communities where they feel seen and heard.
