Nutrition Counseling

The Ohio University Nutrition Treatment program accepts clients who are interested in losing weight, controlling blood sugar, decreasing heart disease risk through diet or just improving overall eating habits. The program includes three one-on-one nutritional counseling sessions with a senior dietetic student. All sessions are supervised by a registered dietitian and are personalized to meet client nutrition goals.

Mission of the Nutrition Treatment Program:

The Ohio University Nutrition Treatment Program (NTP) aims to:

  1. Assist clients in identifying behaviors to promote wellness and in making nutritional changes
  2. Provide senior level students an opportunity to apply their nutrition knowledge and skills in a one-on-one counseling session.
  3. Create a healthier Athens community by providing free nutrition counseling

What is the Nutrition Treatment Program (NTP)?

The program consists of three, one-hour nutrition counseling sessions with an appointed senior dietetic student. Counseling sessions are supervised by a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) and are personalized to meet client nutrition goals. Appointments are scheduled about 3-4 weeks apart and are held in Grover Center W121.

Who can participate?

Counseling is available to faculty, staff, students and community members. NTP accepts clients who are interested in receiving one-on-one nutrition counseling for various reasons (general healthy eating, weight management, disease prevent or management, healthful vegetarian meal patterns, sports nutrition, etc.)

When is counseling offered?

Counseling is offered during the fall and spring semesters. Counselors and the supervising RDN will work to schedule your appointment at a convenient time M-F during the workday.

What to expect?

During the first session, your counselor will learn more about your nutrition related habits and goals. Your counselor will plan session 2 and 3 based on your goals. You will keep a three-day food logs between each session (two logs total over the course of the program) which your counselor will analyze and share with you at the next session.
