Nutrition – Environmental Bachelor's Degree

The Nutrition Major with an Environmental Concentration is for students interested in sustainability, agriculture, wellness, and food policy careers. Graduates are prepared to pursue careers in community and government agencies, industry, and agriculture, especially in areas that focus on sustainability and the environment. Graduates are also prepared for graduate study in a wide range of fields.

The concentration’s curriculum also fulfills the requirements for earning an Undergraduate Certificate in Environmental Studies, Sustainability, and Resilience Certificate (CTESRC). The Environmental Studies Sustainability and Resilience Certificate is an opportunity for students to earn recognition for taking a cross-section of environmentally themed courses from a variety of disciplines.

Get to Graduate School Faster with the Accelerated Graduate Pathway

Outstanding incoming environmental nutrition students — 3.5 high school GPA and a minimum 24 ACT (composite) or 1150 SAT (composite) — may enter the accelerated pathway. This pathway offers students early assurance into the Master of Science in Food and Nutrition Sciences at Ohio University and an opportunity to earn 7 graduate hours during their undergraduate studies. 

The program provides outstanding students the opportunity to earn a B.S. in Environmental Nutrition with a Certificate in Environmental Studies, Sustainability, and Resiliency and early admission to the M.S. in Food and Nutrition Sciences program.  Students who have maintained a 3.3 or higher GPA over 60 credit hours with C or better grades in all required coursework, inclusive of 15 credit hours of nutrition coursework with B or better grades, enter the accelerated pathway and are assured entry into the M.S. program upon conferral of the B.S. degree.

Careers with a Nutrition – Environmental Major

The environmental nutrition concentration is for students interested in sustainability, agriculture, wellness, and food policy careers. Completion of the environmental nutrition concentration has a built-in Environmental Studies, Sustainability, and Resilience Certificate.

Graduates with the environmental nutrition concentration seek careers in nutrition, food policy and agriculture, government and non-government organizations that impact health and sustainability.

To remain active in the program, students must:

  • Maintain an overall GPA of 2.0 (C) or better in all hours attempted at Ohio University.
  • Earn at least a 2.0 (C) or better in all major and related required courses.
  • To complete the degree, students must also successfully earn a (C) or better in all required courses within the retake limit specified by the offering department.
